Have got a little u-shaped bit of plastic near the top of the waste, unfortunately i can't look in the manual as i mentioned above it was given to us.
Sounds like the piece of plastic the flexible pipe is bent over and through...which is what you should use to hook the flexible pipe into the rigid standpipe i just described.

Manual should be downloadable from Bosch website..if you need help finding post the product code.

Surely if it goes in the Soil pipe it doesn't matter?
Nope it matters because nothing seperates the "hole-in-floor" soil pipe from your sewer. With a toilet a water trap is formed by the shape of the pan and the water trapped in it - that stops any nasty smells coming back up! It's not necessarily just smells it will stop either ..think rats, mice, bugs etc.

Your pretty much there...the waste should take you half hour tops..to pull out machine, cut pipe to size and clip to wall (a couple of clips is all you need). As i said if you goto a plumber's merchant they will sell you exactly what you need and you won't have to buy 20 pipe clips when you only actually need 2!

    Don't laugh, but.......

    Like this?

    washingmachine.jpg

If so it would sit a fair way from the wall, 6 inches or so, the clips i've seen look like they hold it against the wall?

Also, how would i connect all of the pipes together, obviously if i buy a length of 40mm there won't be a thread or anything, or does it just 'pop' on? I've never done any sort of plumbing before, apart from connecting and disconnecting washing machine/dishwasher to existing pipes etc.!!

Yep that's pretty much what i meant :) Bottom section of pipe short so the trap is near to the floor with 2nd piece of pipe longer (near the maximum height specified in the manual..not sure what this is but i'd guess a couple of foot at least (will be below your counter height though).

The S-trap fits onto the pipe with a compresssion fitting which just screws on by hand with a plastic washer and rubber tapered washer. When you get the trap unscrew the outer plastic connector on each end..slip the outer pieces on the waste pipe with the plastic washers (usually red) then the tapered black rubber washer (tapering towards the trap ). Push the trap onto the pipe and then simply screw in place.

Because of the S part in the S-trap you should be able to twist it back so the top of the two 40mm pipes is close to the wall if you see what i mean so i'd just clip the upper pipe to the wall.

The rubber drain connector i linked to should just push into place (if it's a tight fit moisten with washing up liquid solution and it should slide in easier). Looks like you just have to cut the hole out to fit your 40mm pipe.

With regards to the pipe, there are different sorts of waste pipe for different waste pipe fittings. The fitting sorts are compression (like the fitting on the tap), solvent-weld (glue) or push-fit. Solvent-weld fittings will only fit pipe suitable for them and similar with push-fit...compression will fit any sort. The difference is the material they are made of plus the external diameter is different. So just get what is cheaper (though you will likely have to buy a couple of metre length) but with pipe clips that match. Cut with saw (i find a tenon saw easier to get a straight cut than a hacksaw), run a bit of sandpaper round the end to smooth it then fit.

Sure you'll manage it..and then before you know it you'll be plumbing your bathroom too like i just have.

Just realised the trap i linked to isn't the right one as it's designed to screw onto a sink..what you need is a "running" S-trap. Can't see them at screwfix though. Will update in a minute.

Update...No joy i'm afraid..probably best to goto the plumber's merchant and ask as might be an adapter to convert normal trap into a running one connected to the two pipes.

Thanks for that, sorted it out this afternoon, bought a washing machine trap and the cover for the soil pipe like you posted, then a length of pipe and managed to sort it out.

Have ran the machine on a cycle and nothing is leaking, so far so good.

I know it's the same as every u-bend but surely a bit of water will sit at the bottom of the U bit?

That's good to hear you got it sorted!
Yep that's the whole point that water sits at the bottom of the bend and blocks the nasty smells coming back up.

I'll be looking out for your "how do i plumb my bathroom posts" ..next week maybe ;)
