For me Mamma Mia was the only film I hadn't seen and was hoping it would be shown.

Thought it would be shown as it had a extended run at our cinema and I know many who went to see it repeatedly. The cinema was less than half full, mixed, couples, kids, groups of girls

I enjoyed the film, being a bloke I didn't sing. The film looked unfocused and dvd quality in places but I think this was the camera work rather than the projection. I struggled on the sound, music came through ok but the voices were hidden - luckily it was subtitled

Looking at the goody bag it was aimed at a older female audience, they missed a trick here, could of put some car related tat in for the blokes

Just PRAYING ours isnt Mamma Mia - the only one I'd be unhappy to see. I suppose they think it was a popular film with the chicks lol... will grab the bags n go if it's that. Flatmate says he will stay if it is not Sex And The City.. lol

Thought it would be a overall vote and not differ. Just hoping the good peeps of our area have voted for something half decent.I will prob sit and watch most of em - if flatmate doesnt wanna then I will bung him enough for one pint and tell him to make it last lol.

BTW I voted for 50 First Dates which both of us would be happy to see on the big screen

AHA! I can answer the question as to why the same film was not shown nationally!

Aparantly, according to the promoters at Brighton Odeon "Top Gun" was the overall winner- the fav of the nation. However as it's 'such an old film' (promoters words not mine), it's difficult to get a copy of it, so the second best film voted was shown aka "Mumma Mia".

But then I'm not sure why then other films were shown in other cinemas, and why on earth they would promote films that they couldn't show if they won?

Ooo, but if you really kicked up a stink I do believe that they have some (not many, our lady had 12) spare tickets (originally used for packed out showings... lol), allowing you to watch another film that night in the same cinema. Well that was my take, it could be dated longer and for any Odeon I guess.

I didn't have any tickets, nor emails to prove my "congratulatory status". The promoters do have a clipboard of names though, but couldn't find it the first time they looked.... So we were told we couldn't go in and they were very sorry but Polo peeps were being very strict.
Thankfully when they had another look at the list they found me name- whoo! :T I was about to get details of someone to write to and complain!

And so we saw Mumma Mia ( I and OH loved it- never seen it before and it was highly enjoyable!), with about 40 other people.... if that!

P.S Oh I did phone the cinema the night before about having no tickets and they couldn't do much, but say they probably would be able to let us in after everyone else was in, as there should be 2 spare seats.... however when we got there it was clear that the cinema itself has no say in this matter, it's down to the promoters. (Who have your name down anyway- so don't worry if you don't have your tickets or email)

That's so wrong, and i'm quite angry about that, if it's true!

Glad you managed to get in and see something anyway! x

I agree entirely with you. It's bad practice to offer something only not be able to give it; so why put it on the list in the first instance? (Or did this list to vote, come from another national survey?)

I'm glad I got in too- thanks! :j

Did it actually say that the film with the most votes would be shown. The terms of the tickets stated that the "film would be chosen by the promoter"

Vote for your favourite film from a list of ten (below) on the Volkswagen Polo Film Festival website and, provided ticket supplies last, you'll get a pair of tickets to see whichever film gets the most votes, at a cinema near you either on Thurs 29 Oct or Tues 3 Nov. Screenings take place at 154 cinemas nationwide including Northern Ireland.
