They wouldn't let me put sperm donor on the certificate so I had to leave it empty.

    You didn't answer my question.

You assumed I had said something derogatory & jumped at my post?

I said nothing of the sort.

Like I said there is no stigma now.
  • to the op - I wouldn't worry about getting the fathers name on the birth certificate to prove who the father is as a relationship between the 2 of them will be worth far more than a bit of paper.

If it is for maintenance then i'm not sure whether you would need this or not:confused:

You don't need the father on the BC to collect child support.

Yes I had assumed that you were hinting that there should be some sort of stigma attached to those of us who have no details of a father on a BC.

thanks best mummy. i should more about it. i suppose i only want his name on so my son knows when he is older... or something? thanks again

I'm off to bed op, but just wanted to say don't worry about it.

Anyone that would think differently of your son because his father won't/wouldn't put his name on his birth cert (or whose mother didn't allow it - not you but others) well their opinion isn't worth worrying about;)

    Wow thats quite an assumption.

Considering I was reassuring the OP their was no stigma nowadays:confused:

Your opinion of me mustn't be too high?
But I won't worry about your opinion of me if you think so wrongly of me.

So the name on a birth certificate will ensure the son KNOWS the father when he grows up? Really?
There is no stigma attached anymore and I stand by that!
As I said to OP, just make sure your son knows WHO his father is when he grows up.

    Let me post it again
Don't kid yourself about the stigma etc, whether politcally correct or not, the stigma is still there.
How is the OP going to make sure the son knows the father when he is older?
You cannot make an estranged parent have contact you know.

Obviously you stand by your beliefs and nobody can disrespect you for that, it's not as if I do not know Mothers who's father is not named on their child's BC and the child does not carry the Father's name, so in my world there is still a stigma around , I suppose in time the pC brigade will bar Fathers day as it can be upsetting to some children in the classroom.

    .

I'm not at all sure the man on my birts cert is my real father, do I care? Its not my fault, its not my problem, I was a baby:D

But I really don't believe their is any stigma now & anyone that does feel like that, really isn't worth worrying about.

I am not trying to convince you to change your beliefs, I'm just saying that you may not care others certainly do, I am proud my father's name is on my BC and I carry the same name as a Grandparent.
I suppose Cellmark or such like, have diminshed the 'value' of a birth certificate

Obviously some people (eg the OP) have some concern/worry over the topic, hence the thread.

MrsE I have no idea what or where this has come from as you can see from other posts here some people do believe there is a stigma there.

As for my opinion of you :confused::confused::confused:
