no, unless you have a court order!!otherwise father would have to be present or give authorisation for his name to appear on your baby's birth certificate0

Nope, the father has to be present at the time
Sorry, bestmummy replied already

how would you get a court order?0

you would have to apply and i guess you would have to prove he is the father, court will also look whether the child will benefit from having his father on his birth certificate as he will then have parental responsibility...cant really remember exactly how this works, but when my son was born i was gonna go to court but decided not to in the end.0

thanks best mummy. i should more about it. i suppose i only want his name on so my son knows when he is older... or something? thanks again0

A childs birth certificate can be voluntarily amended up to the age of 12 months. After 12 months, it can be changed upon marriage of the parents. A court can prove parentage, but not so sure it would result in a change to the actual birth certificate itself.0

Weemansmum,
Does the Father see his son or contribute?
If not then he doesn't deserve to be named. Just make sure your son knows who he is when he gets older..
There is no social stigma about not having a fathers name on a birth certificate anymore and it has been happening since the 1840's

Don't kid yourself about the stigma etc, whether politcally correct or not, the stigma is still there.
How is the OP going to make sure the son knows the father when he is older?
You cannot make an estranged parent have contact you know.0 -
How you can possibly call this sort of scum a parent is beyond me.Don't kid yourself about the stigma etc, whether politcally correct or not, the stigma is still there.

I think **um is a little harsh in fact a lot harsh, not just considering my own circumstances but that of many posts on the forum, as well as offspring parents still have to have their own lives and seek or maintain contentment with their lives.
However it is law to contribute but not law to have contact, it is a great shame that some feel they have no option than to just 'disappear' .
Not in your case or mine but some do try and take advantage of the other party
