  • I give up! Shopping has been very frustrating recently: Evans wide fitting shoes that are too narrow despite measuring my feet with their online video guide and ordering the 'correct' size, M&S sizes being all over place and having to return everything I bought online, Yours suddenly selling really naff cheap acrylic jumpers as 'wool', poor Ann Harvey staff cancelling my order and only partially refunding..... Bla blah blah
Seems like we plus size ladies come way down retailers list of importance, I don't mind paying more for my clothes but I do expect good quality and a decent service for my money. Stupid Evans keep sending me surveys asking how they could improve their stock etc WHY DONT THEY LISTEN TO US? More retailers will go bust if they continue to disregard their customer base. How will that help the UK economy? I have just invested £20 on a collection of basic dressmaking patterns and £30 on fabric and I'm going to make some wardrobe staples for myself my mum taught me to sew 20+ years ago and I am finally going to use the skills she passed on. Pity I can't make my own shoes but its a start.:o

Shoes wise I live in a pair of tuks, some New rock shoes and a pair of doc martens. BUT the doc martens I had to get stretched, none are work looking shoes, but thankfully I can get away with that. Then for summer sandals a very old style from Doc Martens that I trawled ebay for months to replace.

I was in (local ! 35miles away) Sainsbury yesterday, small store with only a couple of isles of clothes, but I found a couple of things on their sale rail plus size, so 22, 24, nothing at 26, but a pair of double crop leggings at 29-30. I didn't know Tu had any plus size, but you can't order online, and the other nearest decent sized is miles and miles away, plus it kinds of put me off that I would have to trawl the whole area to find it... Asked in my local super tescos about their range, where it was to be told they'd gotten rid of it, and it wasn't because people didn't use it. Just like new look, hiding the embarrassing parts!

Tu generally go up to 24 in most of their stuff and their sizes are fairly generous. In my local Sainsburys they always have loads of stuff in plus sizes but I try to wait until they have one of their 25% events (about every other month). Maybe give us a clue to where you live and we can tell you which would be your nearest store with a really big clothes section. Might be worth a one-off trip next time the offer is on?

The Tu sales are normally every 6 weeks to coincide with the school holidays and half term holidays. :)

I can highly recommend their jeggings, & knitwear, a size 24 normally fits a 26 depending on your shape. Tops are more hit and miss as it depends on the style, some are plenty big enough for a 26 some more fit a 22.

I got a lovely cardigan in sz 24, but it is bigger, half price. Unfortunately we're looking 60 miles up or down the A1 for a decent store for me. Too many little towns to warrant a big supermarket, and the biggest in the area it taken with tesco and asda :D

There are some very pretty dresses i spotted, but only at 20 sizes so i did wonder if their current range was plus size too, or if they did the likes of tesco and asda and produce a separate range.

I've noticed in Asda (not checked out the other supermarkets) that they often produce many items only up to a 20, while others designs go up to 24 - and often it's not the most flattering styles that are in a 24!

Just checked the George at Asda site re sizes, and saw that they have some items "now available in 26 & 28" though the item I happened to click on was sold out in both those sizes!

The said mentioned local (!) large tescos have stopped stocking any plus size clothing, which annoys me a little. Why can't we just walk into a shop and be able to see what we're buying? Why do I have to catalogue shop online and not be able to try before I buy? Getting a little fed up, and Evans shops closed nearby, and frankly are something I avoid now anyway.

Quick question about hair, I know not clothing, but how do people do their hair? I really ache for a new hair style, but I'm petrified about a suitable style and cut. I would love curls, not tight perm, but loose however I fail in trying to do them myself. I usually use a local hairdressing student place as it's all I can afford, and I'm a bit worried in just saying give me a suitable style for my face.

Throw in most days having slept in hair, due to having no shower, hair wash previous night, I am playing with dry shampoo, which does say you can style on top, but I have no clue in styling either. Basically round fat face, and currently mid back length straight hair with a straight fringe.

Googling overweight womens hair styles brings back people I would never consider to be overweight, so how the heck am I supposed to imagine that on my head! Or even worse, the typical poorly dressed walmart crew of really overweight people with terrible clothes and hair styles that are obviously bad :$ And, oh god, the mug shots >.<

I have a pixie crop at the moment and I usually wear a wig. It's a throwback from when I lost my hair due to cancer and I wore headscarves and wigs. Now my hair has grown back it still won't grow to the length I want it so keep it short and I have three gorgeous long wigs, one chocolate brown, one honey blonde (which im wearing on my avvy picture :))and one brownish blonde. If you aren't sure if a style will flatter why not try that? Also going back to clothes I find Asdas stuff quite good. Never had a problem in getting size 22-24 (I'm a 22 on he top and 24 on the bottom) in fact the top I'm wearing now is from Asda and its a 22.

Thank you for this useful post! My partner is also a 'big guy', I look forward to buying some things for his birthday, he'll be thrilled!
