Well... it took me until 2:15pm in the end - and I've only done half the room... but it's the worst half because it's so cluttered with DD's music stuff (a piano, a cello, a piano stool, a cello stool, shards of rosin, dusters, silk scarves, metronome, music, pencils, rubbers, stands, pads of music manuscript, exam certificates on the walls, backing CDs, boom box, remote control, speakers, cello T .........)

Oh and not forgetting the full-length practise mirror so she can [STRIKE]keep checking that she looks just like eScala[/STRIKE] keep checking her posture and bow hold are correct... :rotfl:

Now, if any of you are at all faint-hearted, look away now.

f_spider.giff_spider.giff_spider.giff_spider.giff_spider.giff_spider.giff_spider.gif
(sorry)

It's a little-known fact that, not only do spiders eat lots of flies, but they then poop the remains all over the place, and especially directly under their web, forming little calcified spider pats....

Guess what I found plastering my inglenook fireplace? Yup. Enough guano to set up a fertilser plant.

So I put on a headscarf, 50s style:D, climbed right into the inglenook amongst the webs and the spiders , and hoovered behind the beams, behind the iron chimney stack, all around the cauldron hooks and salt niches set into the brickwork and timbers, and all around the 17C bread oven which goes deep into the wall (it's big enough to roast three small children at a time, I would guess, though I've not yet tried).

And still they came...
f_spider.giff_spider.giff_spider.giff_spider.giff_spider.giff_spider.giff_spider.giff_spider.gif

(bit like space invaders, but without the sound effects)

So I made another cup of tea, and went back to it.... and eventually I couldn't see any more spiders or webs... and all that was left was to scrub the quarry tiles free from guano with an old-fashioned scrubbing brush, and... hoover the coal...

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Yes I know. Bonkers, or what? But it was filthy! (With dust)

(We don't use this fireplace, as there's another inglenook at the opposite end of the room which has a log-burning grate, and we have a plentiful supply of logs. So the coal just sits there in this brass witch's cauldron getting dusty....)

Oh dear. :o

I'm not sure I'm really getting the hang of this flylady stuff, but I *have been brave* (and I pulled the heavy oak window bench away from the wall and tackled all the wildlife behind that, as well). And I still hope to earn my living room star later this week....

One good thing about living in an old, old house is that there are no skirting boards. So I'm at least spared that...!

Day off tomorrow, as I have to take DD to a really, really important audition (she's playing the cello). Any good luck vibes for her would be really welcome; and some positive vibes for me on Wednesday when I tackle the second INGLENOOK OF DOOM......

Dustily yours

MissH

MissHiggerty - our house is a former bakers, we have the arches for the bread oven chimney, but sadly no bread oven. We do find some really 'interesting' animal skeletons in the walls

Project Crocus (Thanks Toots) has been passed by the client and is now off to the funding body for its fourth obstacle.

Ironing done, just need to put the clean washing away and I am giving up for the night. Five second hand Miss Silvers to read (three I havent read for years, two I have never read):j! Just need to put the boys to bed.....

it's finding the -erm- spider poo that leads me to look up and find the webs - usually near my front door tbh as it's used so rarely your ladyship

(cos you MUST live in a Castle Miss H)

and it's a VERY good job our resident arachnaphobic is across the pond and far away from your visitors.

I have just coughed and spluttered at the Severn Trent man - my NDNs external stop tap seems to have blown and water is seeping up through the footpath down the hill - right outside MY HOUSE.

DD is all excited hoping it'll cave in
and neighbours are in Kala something in Greece...I'm not going to text them - I have popped a note through their door so that they know it's been reported.

ETA Sorry about the job Holly as has been said - their loss.
Get well soon kitty vibes for Queenie Dusty
Hope you are as comfortable as possible Toots!

I have a fireplace like that and don't do s****rs so took out the coals and wrought iron thingy they were in, blocked the chimney, scrubbed it all down and put some pretty candles in.....hence, no need to get chimneys swept.

Finished my ironing just as my mother popped in. She left just after 7 and I have put all the caravan stuff from the landing into the attic, put DD to bed, got the dog in and fed him......will go check list and see if I can cross anything else off xx
