My dd give me a picture that she was given of some old lady to put in the charity skip, when I got it home it has a date on of 1939?(thereabouts) how do i find out if it is a print or painting, know nothing about pictures or how to tell anything about them.
Dont want to charity it if it may be worth something.
One of your local auction houses might have a look at it for you, sometimes they do valuation days; a local museum curator might also help give you a starting point. Is there a signature on it anywhere ? What condition is the back of the picture in? Does it look like it's come out of its frame within the last 10 years or does it look like old tape/fixings and as if it hasn't been touched in decades? Is there any kind of label, writing or other clue on the reverse? Finally, and sorry to be a bore but someone's going to say it sooner or later, if it was given to you in good faith to donate to charity, isn't that what you should do with it?Reason for edit? Went to my first CBS of the year yesterday...waste of time but it was good to see what people are selling.
Hoping to pick up some goodies from the CS over the next few days. Really impressed with the great bargains people are finding.
p.S- Does anyone know about any jumble/table top sales in and around the East Mids...I'm getting magpie fever...looking for lovely things to purchase!!xx

I've had a few run ins, it's not normally too bad it's just the bad manners and rudeness from other buyers. I've noticed recently that large groups of certain eastern europeans going to boot sales congregate around stalls, partly to intimidate the sellers into bring the price down and also to stop other buyers looking. I ignored the wall of people and got in to look at one of the stalls, I'm by no means an easy frightened person but , the "negotiation" taking place, lets just say I'll bet the seller won't be doing another one. I've been put off doing one now, I've sold most of what I was going to take :j
We were rained off again this weekend  Now i've got more free room I need to fill it :rotfl:
Well done to everyone who got to cbs over the weekend, hope you got fab bargains x0 -
I managed to get a few pieces of pretty china for free at this weekends bootsale!
Just as I was leaving I noticed a box of broken bits & pieces by the bins - but also quite a lot of intact items including a beautiful blue teacup, saucer and side plate trio. I asked permission and the box was mine! I think they were happy not to have to deal with it.
The pictures are on my blog if anyone's interested!

Had a great day at yesterday's carboot =] shame about the weather for the bank holiday carboots this morning, but i didnt mind too much because i had to be at work for 10.30.
Yesterday's bargains include:
* Vintage 1970s pink hairdryer and cover £1.00 (not sure if it works, im too scared to plug it in but i've been desperate to buy a vintage hairdryer since i saw Goanmad's blog, not sure if she still reads this post, but she really inspires me)
* River Island Floral Strapless dress with belt £1.00
* Various CD's for the OH 20p each (mostly rock Foo Fighters, The Offspring etc)
* River Island Floral Mini dress £1.00
* New Look Floral Sheer Cropped Gypsy Top 50p
* Next Green Floral Vest 20p
* Vintage Laura Ashley Full Length Floral Skirt 50p
* Vintage Laura Ashley Full Length Floral Dress 50p
* Vintage Floral Dorothy Perkins Dress 50p
* Vintage 60s Pink Patterned Shift Dress 50p
* Vintage Floral 60s Mini-Skirt 50p
* Vintage Green Floral Shift Dress 50p
* Vintage Blue Patterned 60s Shift Dress 50p
* Full length White Sheer Dress with a picture of the Virgin Mary 50p (was very intrigued by this dress)
* Primark BNWT Opened Toed Heels £1.00
I met this most amazing guy selling all these vintage items at one of the carboots yesterday. All the clothes were stuffed into an old suitcase so i had to have a rummage but he let me have 10 things for £4.00 and they fit me amazingly. He told me the vintage shop he'd owned had gone bust so lots of goodies for me to buy =] wish there were more people out there like him!
Hopefully gonna get to the Wednesday and Saturday boot this week! Lets hope the weather stays nice.
Happy bargain hunting

Where do people find out about jumble sales? I'm trying to find a jumble or car boot sale in Leicester, and since I don't drive am thinking a jumble sale is more likely than a car boot near the city centre.0

What a lovely blog, Treacle. I love to see the china you're picking up put to good use. There's a tip near us,which I visit reasonably often. The amount of pretty china that gets put into landfill just beaks my heart, but although I used to pick up bits and pieces - to rescue them! - in the end I had to stop because I simply couldn't give them all house room!Reason for edit? Hi dropscone:wave:
I Google "jumble sales" and my area from time to time and it's worth keeping an eye out for posters on lamp posts and local notice boards including supermarket notice boards - I have found out about quite a few jumble sales from my local Sainsburys Community Board. Also worth looking in local independent newsagents' windows. Our local newspaper usually has advertisements for jumble sales too, but not often as I think organisers try and keep their costs down as much as possible.

Went to a Jumble yesterday and got a few bits including
1960's Elbief Kelly Bag
Vintage Liberty skirt
Pineapple hoodie
Oasis dress
M&S shopping bag - all for 50p each
Well the forecast is glorious today so I'm off with DS1 and DS2 to the CB, hope I get loads of bargains!!!!!!!!!
Happy booting/ jumbling everyone0 -

Hi dropscone, there is a car boot sale at the Beaumont Shopping Centre on Sunday mornings. You can get lots of buses to it from the city centre. Hope that helps.0
