There was talk of a three licence family pack though. It might help to bring the cost down a bit.

what is the cost of family pack?

Vista was so abysmal that Windows 7 should in truth be a free Vista service pack.

I've recently installed the freebie RC version on a laptop I bought with Vista preinstalled. Some things are better but there is still something strange about networking - I keep the database for a freeware application on a SAN disk and on an XP machine it opens up instantly but takes an age on Win 7. Just copying the database file using Win 7 is fast. Very strange.

i will agree W7 is what vista should have been.
interestingly W7 seems to have sorted my media streaming issues to the ps3/360
i was getting random juddery playback on higher bitrate stuff.
tried loads of stuff an was near to buying a new router
W7 seems to have fixed it

A lot of people have said that Vista is quite a poor OS, but what is really so poor about it? The only part of the system that I don't like is the defrag.

being a massive resource hog is one of my main gripes
many said it was to be expected with its features but W7 doesnt use the same levels of resources

I'd attribute a lot the improvements in the responsiveness of Windows 7 down to hardware manufacturers reaching a level of maturity with their drivers, since the driver model in 7 is very similar to that of Vista, unlike the radical change in architecture that the transition from XP to Vista brought.

The efforts Microsoft have been making have been more straight forward as Vista was actually a solid and sound platform to start improving upon, which has led us to where we are now.
  • I'm waiting for W8... or W7 Service Pack 20 before I get it.

Seriously though, any major probs with W7? MS ususally fail whale with the first releases of new OS.

not so far really for me
guessing most ofthe bugs were flagged on vista
only one i had with an early release of W7 was it failing to resume on my laptop and requiring a reboot
however that was gone on the next version
