Be folly to tell them to stick their contract.....12 month free deal on the phone she wanted, which isn't available on any of the other networks. So didn't really have much choice.

In my local Tescos some of the staff have all the personality of a grape. However there is one girl who chats away to you and I always look for her checkout .. even if there is a queue. People should not have to be 'trained' to be polite, they should not have to be 'trained' to have manners .. they just need to take a little more pride and accept that they applied for that job, they were offered it under a set of T&C and they accepted those ... if they don't like it then they can always go elsewhere. I think people without even the most basic of scales (such as manners) are seriously over valuing themselves even at minimum wage.

I agree that everyone seems to want something for nothing nowadays. I think politeness/manners is about personality and yet with competency based recruitment the norm today, such personal traits can't be identified until they're employed, and then you can't get rid of them so easily. Whilst you can't train people to be polite, you can train them to understand the consequences of behaviour. Either way though, botom line is companies just don't care. If they did, they'd try harder in recruitment or development of staff

I know customers can be just as bad, but I find I'm only ever angry when I'm confronted with gum chewing, nonchalant and just plain miserable staff. If you don't like the job, get another one - preferably not client facing.
