  • With Gap, it looks like the thing to do is never to write bad reports about burger places. Even if everything was terrible, bite your lip, say everything was wonderful and then wait for the fee to go into your bank account. At the end of the day, they only seem to want good reports rather than constructive reports so give them what they want. Not only that but it's quicker to fill in a good report than it is to fill in a bad report.

Maybe not totally ethical as Mystery Shoppers but then neither are Gap in this case.

Just seems to be the simple thing to do...

To me it's a choice between doing the right thing, and getting a free lunch. Depends on whether you can live with yourself after writing a false report.

And seeing as I value my mobile phone shops, I know they don't pay a lot but they are quick and easty and they do "top up the pot" when I'm going to an area anyway, I think I'll steer clear of fast food jobs on Gap rather than deliberately write an incorrect report.

And on another note ... can anyone get into RE this morning? For several weeks now I've had to log in twice each time but 've just tried aboutr a dozen times and can't get in. ETA: Ignore, I'm logged in now!

I take a different approach (to woo-hoo -TG and I posted together)
I rarely accept Gap jobs unless I already have other MSs very close by
I believe I do a good job with my reports and I'd rather work for companies who appreciate that professionalism -rather than compromise my integrity.
I accept that sooner or later I'll probably get sacked by Gap with this approach but when and if it happens I'll just move on-for now it adds a little extra income for minimal effort.
I have put negative elements into Gap reports -but I've always balanced them with finding something positive to say (there's always *something* if you look hard enough)
(Anyway it's always fun watching the "fast food dance" when you ask for a receipt ;) )

Had a whirlwind of a week...just caught up with all the pages here! Not a lot happening it seems until this comment....

not sure I agree with you woohoo_postingid
Think this is likely to start an interesting debate. (Edit...it has; TG,duchy and I all answered immediately!)

My thoughts are MS isn't meant to be simple...and fabricating the report just to make sure you get paid might be one of the criteria that can get people the sack.

I think if your reporting skills cover everything that happens in a clear an objective manner than the company cannot question or reject it. I have had some appalling customer service and have only had a handful of reports questioned over the years and have always been paid.

Reports should be honest not just made up because it's quicker and you want the money!

Agencies have been known to Mystery shop the Mystery shoppers too....so it just might be that something occurred to check a MSer is doing their job correctly....if you don't report accurately then your credibility counts for nothing and your work will dry up!

On the few occasions I have had bad reports queried by various companies, I always respond by stating that I will not adjust my views and compromise my integrity as a MS just to keep a client happy - thats always worked.

It is a balance, GAP Burger jobs were always the worst for being questioned for bad reports - the stores do get hammered for bad reports and I mean hammered by Head office.
  • I never said that this is what I do, just that it seems to be the way forward for people who want to have an easier life and to ensure they get paid.

I never do burger jobs any more after Gap refused to pay me for an error on their part however I do remember not being paid when the restaurant argued my timings and Gap wouldn't believe me.

If you write a bad report, you run the risk of not getting paid and you are therefore down by the cost of a meal which you may never have purchased otherwise plus time, petrol etc etc. The other option is that you may get sacked and you are therefore down by the income from not just the burger places but all the other businesses that Gap work with. Either way, your income is down.

Not having a go at you personally but just think the comment gives out a really bad message to MSers. It is most definitely not the way forward if you value the work and want a future in it.

Mike is right when he says how the burger places are judged by the report but it is their company policy and the staff know the brief so well. Because some reporters do, it seems give incorrect details/times etc then they are going to be super critical at any negativity. This is why it is so important to detail everything correctly and honestly.
