Thanks for the advice drahcir. I don't know what would have happened if I'd kept trying to unlock an already unlocked phone - would it have locked itself and require cable unlocking? I assumed that all handsets supplied with a sim card were locked to a particular network (I'm sure my old Orange contract phones WERE locked).

Perhaps it's worth emphasising that not all phones ARE locked in the first place and to try another Sim card before trying to do what I was doing before you saved the day?!!

afaik only o2 contract phones are unlocked - other networks are still locked
but if you buy from cpw and a few websites (cant remember which) they supply unbranded (unlocked) phones.
it wouldnt matter how many tries at code you had as it would still be unlocked.
you can only relock it by hardware
