Congestion Charge :(

Wanting something to work properly may seem unreasonable to you, but I've always had a soft spot for GBS. If I am going to have to sign in because of a timeout, it should inform me of this before allowing me to quote and edit. Like I should have been given the opportunity to settle the bill before having an extortionate fine imposed on me!

Crabman told you how to try to fix the cookie problem.
You weren't given an oportunity to settle the bill? You could have paid the day before, on the day or the day after. You could have paid online, by mobile phone, by landline phone, in a shop, you could ahve paid by post 10 days beofre your journey, you could have googled to find out how to pay and if you had to pay (I just did it took me seconds).

It's not a cookie problem and I think I have already fixed it (thanks Crabman). I often do use notepad as described.
but....
If I was timed out it should have told me before I started to type a response - NOT AFTER I've typed one! It is a system problem - the fix is a work around - it is not me being stupid. The fix is a work around - I might not want it to 'Remember me' , I might be using the system where I don't want to be remembered. In this case the workaround is acceptable to me - it might not always be.
In a similar way the Penalty charge is IMO wrong. In my experience there is a stage missing in the process if they can automatically penalty charge, you they could automatically bill you (maybe even with a small proportionate admin charge). Moving from £8 to £10 to £60 is not proportionate. It is obviously set like that to generate revenue and to 'bully' people into paying.
I heard about this site because of Martin Lewis's stand on Bank Charges which I agree with. This is a very similar issue and I am dismayed how so many seem to be supportive of the way this issue works.adouglasmhor wrote: »Crabman told you how to try to fix the cookie problem.

How can it time you out before its unaware you are trying to post something , just thinks you are idle
Have you NOT ticked the keep me logged in box by any chance?
This is money saving because we all know that if we dont pay the charge we will get hit by more charges , We could save you more money by telling you not to pay your council tax , mortgage , credit cards ect , if you want us toVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
I had to drive down to London on the 30th June for work in our pool car. Was going to Islington BDC so just outside the Congestion zone. I took the wrong turning and ended up travelling in the congestion zone for 100 metres. Didn't realise I had done so and got fined. Not £60 though, it had doubled to £120 because the company we lease from didn't let us know sooner. Not only that but I had to pay a 25% admin charge on top of it. All out of my own pocket. Very annoying but my own fault for not checking if I'd been in the congestion zone. This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0

Knowing or finding out what is required of you is not the same as supporting something. I have already said I don't support it, but you seem unable to accept that through your own lack of foresight, your inaction and la di da lackadaisical attitude, you are in a mess of your own making. Hell mend you.The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

There is a difference between thinking the system is wrong, and working within it, to avoid being hit by any fines or penalties.
In fairness, despite my earlier comments, I live in London and am not completely sure how to go about paying for it. But then again on the few occassions I drive I make damn sure I don't go anywhere near it, or just travel when it is not active0 -
The system is bloated, unfair and unthinking, yes it is wrong and if it has to exist at all it should be streamlined and made easier. If there was a helpline or even a freephone number and web address on every parking meter for it so you could get instant advice on where and how to pay it would help.
The system is wrong but playing into it's hands (it is a money making scheme first and foremost) helps no one but the beneficiaries = TFL and the shareholders of Capita). The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett
