    All previous stuff aside it is not a fine it's a civic penalty charge from a private contractor. A fine suggests a criminal act and it's not that at all.

  • Nice attitude from someone so self-righteous.
    Every day is a holiday when you work for the "Cooncil" at least until the Tories get in :rotfl:

    I was joking (see smiley),
    I left work late every day last week and was in early all but one of them, I have short lunch breaks and I still like my job. Much like other public sector employees, teachers, carers, lecturers it not just about the job it's the service users. I do get a bit of leeway about other things though (using the net at breaks etc.) I am not playing the martyr here.

    Must have a hell of a lot of breaks. Explain's why you are so supportive of this bit of extortion, more money for the 'administrators'.

    I am supposed to get 1 and a half hours per day, 30 mins paid 60 mins unpaid, one day I got it. Can't say I support toll zone charging at all though, just pragmatic enough to know there is no way to avoid paying it once it's implemented.

    At least it has a reasonable pension though once I leave.

    I do have to empathise somewhat with the OP. Not entirely, but just imagine what it is like for those who aren't acquainted with technology like we are? I dread to think how my mum would cope driving into London. She would have absolutely no idea about how to pay the congestion charge or that you would incur such a quick penalty for not paying within 2 days.

    Someone said that the charge is more complex than a simple toll. That I agree with. But as the system is automatic, surely there should be some leeway in terms of extending the time in which a penalty is issued. Otherwise there SHOULD be signs EXPLAINING the amount of time one has to pay before incurring a hefty penalty... Something simple like;

    'Failure to pay the congestion charge within 2 days of entry will result in atleast a £60 penalty'.

    But ofcourse, this wouldn't make TFL as much money, and they assume everyone will have access to the internet or a mobile phone to find out about these things.

    Other than the incident with the garage, my dad and I have fortunately never had any issues with paying the C charge on the day before midnight is up (as it is quite simple to pay online).

    Actually TFL have given more leeway! :eek: When the charge was first introduced at £5, you had to pay it by 10pm or it went up to £8 (I think). Failure to pay by midnight was an automatic £60 fine. I lost count of the number of times I'd wake up at 2am, with something bugging me, and then realising I forgot to pay.

    At least now you effectively have 2 days to pay it at £10.
