Wonderful to see the new thread. Congratulations on your journey so far Hypno.
Have to laugh though at the thought from Hypno that it was a bit shabby to only pay off £3,000 nover the period of your last thread! I can't think of ANYONE else that would say such a thing!
Good luck with getting to the teens.. it's all looking good and I'm delighted and relieved that you've a focus on your health and well-being more so than before... I can tell you now that I've sat here and worried about you so many times over the years as you've pushed yourself so hard. Health above all else Hypno - I think that's a decent motto.
I'll be following you through the next steps of your journey. I'm hoping to hit my target this month - I set out on 1 Jan to save £5,000 by Christmas, I think I might just make it next week! It's thanks to Hypno and the people on this thread that I've been able to do this. Thank you and good luck!:A

I think part of it is realising that I have choices - a couple of years ago I had no choice but to work seven days a week, in as many jobs as I could fit in, housing students etc etc just to keep afloat. Now, the "extras" are a very welcome addition, but we won't go under if we don't have them...so I have a choice as to whether I do so much. Things would be tight, but tight is not the same as impossible.
I could quite easily just stick to my minimums now, and still be debt free in 2 years time when the new loan comes to an end, and it wouldn't be the end of the world (and still within my 5 year timeframe that I set myself on my very first post on MSE), so if I did end up doing that, then it is still pretty good.
That said, of course, I am still aiming to be debt free much quicker, but this summer has taught me a lot about my own wellbeing and the exhaustion that comes alongside all the things that we do (speaking for both OH and I).
Definitely debt free by 40, though........or elseSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -

I have been number crunching........using the new figures now that the mortgage is on repayment, and the loan has been switched etc.
I thought it would be useful to those starting out on their DFW journey to see what a difference the support of these boards can make.....
When I joined the site almost three years ago, my minimum payments for the non-mortgage debt were £2200.......just for the minimums!
On top of that, the mortgage was only interest only ie nothing being repaid there but still costing us over £700 a month, and the usual household bills were on top of that still.
I have just done the numbers again, and ALL our household bills, minimum debt repayments, and the mortgage which is now repayment rather than interest only, plus our savings £100 a month into ISAs for emergencies (unemployment, boiler blow up, etc) come to £2177.48 -ie LESS than my minimum payments alone were when I joined the site.
Of course, that doesn't include food, petrol, skiing, days out, presents, haircuts, car MOT etc......it is just the debt, mortgage and essential household bills.......but it is a huge difference from our starting point.
So.....for anyone reading who thinks they are in an impossible place, stick around, take the tips and support from these boards and you will notice a huge difference over the coming months and yearsSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground.
