Buffy - add £5 and withdraw £20 once your 24 hours has passed.

DS has taken his hormones out to the city with his mates.......hopefully he will leave any stroppiness on the bus.

I am going to make some soup, then do a bit of blitzing. Loud music and a bit of elbow grease will hopefully lift my mood

DD is doing more sixth form applications......it seems never ending!

And this is day 7 with no sugar.......still finding it tough :o

please be careful that your CC doesn't chargeyou a fee as most do for gambling transactions.
A Debit card is best to use.

Argh! You're joking?! I didn't know that. I just used it as it tends to be better not to give unknown websites access to your bank account. Oh no! :(

  • Well done on getting the finances in such good order for the ski trips Hypno, I hope the bonus comes through OK... will you know the amount before your holiday?

Delighted you've got your holiday soon, especially since DS is being a normal teenager! :D

I've done a bit of a clear out too - put some stuff on eB@y last night. took me hours as this computer went on a go slow. I've three more items to put on. I'm selling a corgi toy James Bond Aston Martin DB5, but I haven't a clue if it's got any value, though it's marked as 'new' and I *think* it was bought in 1967.. though no box. It's driving me crazy trying to find out more about this thing and it's taken all morning :o

I hope you get a bit of time to relax today Hypno - any chance of some time for Yoga?

If it had the box, then you're looking at least £700...

It's one of those geeky collectables. Have a Google for for modern antique collectables and put that in. You'll find a market for men aged 25-40 with too much money in their hands will snap it up! Especially if the car is from a good Bond! :D
 Debt Free since July 2011 and it feels good!

Now it's all about finding a deposit for a house!

How do you amass £70k in a year?!

I will try and do some yoga once I have created a bit of calm space.......good idea!

I have moved money around for the skiing - as I had to write a cheque for some of it this morning. Boy it is tight but at least it seems doable.

I would hope that any news of a bonus comes before I go on hols because they normally pay by cheque......so if I don't receive it until after my return, it won't actually clear until after Christmas.......and I don't feel I can leave a paying in slip with the accounts department to say "not that I'm counting on it or anything, but if there happens to be a cheque with my name on, can you please pay it in straight away?".......:o

And yes......I sooo need this holiday!! The friend I am going with sent me a text earlier today saying she has got lots of freebie beauty stuff to take with us so we can have a girly giggly pamper while we are there - it is so nice to be going with someone who is on the same MSE wavelength as I am :D

On the subject of using credit cards for gambling purposes (that includes betting sites, bingo etc). Most charge it as a cash advance, which means possibly a fee but definitely an extortionate rate of interest commencing on the day you make the withdrawal from the card. You may get away, on one occasion and so long as you clear the card immediately, with argueing your case as you didn't realise and getting them to refund the cash advance fee, you will probably have to pay the interest though. Remember also that card companies will stash the highest interest rate transactions to the back of the queue for receiving payment, so if you HAVE used credit cards at all anyone take a careful look at what is happening and react accordingly, but do it quickly. Might be necessary to shuffle money about and pay off the card in full. Not sure whether an extra payment to the normal - with a convering letter asking that it is targetted at the higher interest rate stuff, might work in some cases.

    HTH someone. :money:

Hi Essex. Thanks for the info, but I'm not 100% on this so can I run my situation through with you? That's a nod, isn't it? Oh it isn't? Oh well, I'll just tell you anyway...;)

right, I used my CC unawares that it counted as a cahs advance for my £5 BB deposit. I won £20 and withdrew it within the same 24hr period. The only thing is I have no chance of clearing the card immediately. Do you reckon it will get shuffled to the back of the pack as a cash advance payment until the end of time? If I bleat at my CC company if they do this, might that help?

What's all the more annoying is that I could have easily used my debit card, but I just used ny CC for safety as it was the first time I've used this account and prefer not to give my bank acount details to sites until I am sure about them. :( Piffle and tish!

    Thanks Essex! :)

I've set up seperate current a/c's for me and OH just for this purpose, so it doesn't give out our main bank account details, if you use the same bank as you normally use, online transfers are very quick between accounts (both current and savings). I didn't want to use our normal accounts for mse special activities :)

pickle, the best thing for you to do is to look at the terms and conditions for the particular credit card that you have got as they all differ. If in doubt, then, give them a call and talk it through with them, and at the same time, you can plead to their better nature if you need to.

As I say, every card is different, so you may get a positive answer from EH, but that doesn't actually apply to your particular account.

For what its worth - I have always used our normal current accounts for everything MSE, and have never had a problem.

In other news, have just made a lovely broccoli and stilton soup for my lunch, and there is loads left, so I think I will be having it for my lunch all week! Bargain!

    Strewth

This car was always a toy, so no box. I can't guarantee when my parents bought it, but it would have been a perfect gift for their eldest boy, hence my guess at 1967. We shall see - I've spent hours searching already, so I'm just going to see what happens. I wouldn't know a good Bond from a bad one... gosh, I'm not very good at this am I :o:D

Hypno, keep an eye out in the charity shops for similar - you could pay your ski fees no problem with one of these... boxed of course!
