i have to confess i've got a hair appointment for friday, i've waited ages, so long my roots are longer than the average hairstyle. I've also been biting off split ends for a while so it's desperate. I am spending some chrissy pressy money on it but am considering going nearer my natural colour so i can go back to home colours. (only downside is it takes at least 2 bottles if not 3 to do mine at home.

Thats fine, hiphouse. My answer's a bit off the wall tho, sorry (or rather, the history behind my answer is a bit weird).

Its just that I've gone *very* grey - and since I'm doing more/going out more, I've realised, finally, that very, very few women my age have let their hair go grey. Since I'm single, it just feels like I'm giving myself a handicap in the hunting-for-a-bloke stakes, quite frankly.

You have no *idea* how weird that sounds, coming from me - bona fide 1970s leftie, consciousness raising, leftie socialist politics, political decision about shaving legs etc - erm, I used to call myself a political lesbian. I seriously apologise for any offence caused to lesbians by that.

Since I liberated myself from the absolute drive towards how things *should* be, and tended towards acceptance of reality..... I've hankered after dyeing my hair. Possibly when I'm out of debt, I will!

And I miss the chestnut tone my hair used to have, it was lovely.

    Just do it.

Stop worrying about what people will think and just do it.

If they ask questions, just become New-Age teenager and say "Coz..."

You know what, Z? I don't worry about what people think in all sorts of ways. But when I change my appearance, I have to go through weeks of worried queries from clients...... last year, my sister passed on some nice soft ankle length boots to me, and I wore them around the house and while I was working. Same deal - weeks of questions. Its kind of tiring.

    EDIT - but you're right!

The earlier you do it, the sooner the questions stop.
