Single and in Debt Part 3- The problem of surplus and excess women

Hello everyone, just found this thread through a link on Debt Free Wannabee. Can I join the gang, please, as I too am a single girl in debt?
Am reading the last 10 pages or so to bring me up to speed.
I see internet dating has come up - Wonder if I can get anyone's opinion please? I am on one of the paying internet websites (my little treat along my debt free journey) which matches you up according to your profile (rather than one where you search through profiles yourself). I recently got matched with a man without a photo. I sent him one of the 'introductions' saying I'd love to see a photo and find out more about him. I received a reply saying that 'I don't do online photos as I am very shy and not photogenic. However I am attractive and would like to meet for coffee. Please send me your mobile number'.
Does anyone else find this a bit weird, or am I being unfair? It makes me feel uncomfortable to be honest and I certainly don't want to meet for a coffee with a stranger when I don't know what they look like. It's not just superficial but surely a picture can help you see if you'd be attracted to someone? Also, we're on an online dating site and he's saying he's shy and 'doesn't do' online pictures?
Should I give him a chance or delete?
Any advice gratefully welcomed...

he might be shy, but as I've just been called naive can't really comment, but you should go with your gut instinct and if that say's no, don't go, me personally I wouldn't, I internet date every now and again, but really don't know why I bother, cos I meet enough people in the pub, but I guess my mum was right when she said I was scared of missing something, the other week i was out with friends and got chatted up by a 32 yr old and i'm 38, so although I didn't fancy him it's good to know i don't quite look my age as he thought i was younger, and on the same night did talk to this lad briefly who is my age,but didn't swop phone numbers but we are talking on facebook now and something's bound to go wrong cos i really liked him.0

Thanks Eco. Gut instinct says something not quite right there. He may in fact be a very nice guy, but on the other hand his reluctance to send a pic makes me wonder if he's married or a bit strange!
Love your comment about 'something's bound to go wrong cos I really liked him' - glad to see I'm not the only cynic around here!!

Well if anyone can mess something up it's me. I got called naive cos I put on facebook how I was out walking the dog and got talking to this homeless guy who used to do sand sculptures at Scarborough, he seemed genuine, he also told me about this other homeless guy called The Pebble Man who's going round the coast of UK doing pebble sculptures, and there is cos i googled him. I think it's good to talk to folk cos you learn all sorts of things, these days were getting too wary of strangers but there not all loonies0

Thought I'd do an update cos I've got news, firstly I'm been made redundant at the end of March, and am quite happy about it, chance to do something new and all that.
I'm clearing the junk out of my house so next year I'll start looking at barges and hopefully start to have one built.
I've also got a BF, been 5 weeks now and going really well, met him on the tinternet, and feel I'm tempting fate but can see it been for the long haul.0 -

Hiya Rosa and Fletch I've already started applying for a new job, I've been told tho I'm one of the few who would be expected to stay till they shut, but feel I should be looking for a job now, it could take months to sort especially with Christmas, and if I get a job they can stick the idea I'll stay and help wind it down.
Rosa now you've got a life again what have you been upto?0 -
Hi eco,
very exciting to hear that you have found a good man & also that your boaty plans are in progressGreat that you see redundancy as a good opportunity to change direction.
Really happy for you, it's well deserved

Hi Eco
Am doing not much and loving it. Decided having three months off before setting any more goals, so just sleeping, remembering how to cook and catching up with neglected friends. Think my work situation is OK but am keeping an eye out just in case. Good luck with your jobhunting
