Moved away about 9 years ago. Came here to northampton with a guy and when we split decided to stay. Still think of Bedford as home though! It all went downhill when milton keynes got really popular.

Sarahb - Could you try ebaying some of them? At least that way you might recoup some of what you spent on them. If not could they go to a charity shop? I'm not sure if charity shops sell toiletries, but if not they could always go in the bin then. I'm a bit like you I think, Boots is lethal for me. I can go in for one little thing and come out having spent £20 so easily. I managed to accumulate quite a collection of shampoo/conditioner when I was at Uni on the basis that their 3 for 2's were such bargains! It got to the point where my Mum asked me if I was anticipating a national shampoo shortage!!

Yargo - So sorry to hear about your friend. I think no matter how old you are, how long you've been single, there will always be times when you need a hug. Take care :grouphug:

I am rubbish at anything technical, plus I don't have the patience for tracking things, posting things off etc, I think I will give them to a charity shop and they can decide what they want to do with them, most are sealed so hopefully they can get some use out of them.

I hav had to keep away from Boots for a while as you are right, it is lethal, especially when combining vouchers etc to get things for a few pence, completely pointless if I don't need them. :o However, I have run out of a few things and my local Boots is having its Christmas Shopping Day this week where you get £12 points for spending £50, so am going to stock up on a few things. Must remember not to buy shampoo, lotions, creams or make up of any description:o

Hey Sarah, I just held a charity day for Breakthrough at work and as well as the donations from businesses all the girls brought in unwanted toiletries. Could you maybe do something like that and ask a local hospice/old folks home or similar if they can use them for their raffles? Or maybe something in your own work/a friends? That would save you throwing them. My mum stockpiles toiletries for me and always goes OTT. I currently have enough Nivea Soft to last me for about 10 years!

Havebeen having a look at my toiletries stash which I amassed last year due to my Boots addiction which was fuelled by the thread on "grabbit." I counted everything up at the beginning of the year and I think I had about 250 unopened items:eek:

It is a bit tidier now as I have obviously used things throughout the year but there is no way I am ever going to get through them all and to be honest a lot of them I got because they were bargains and not because they were useful:o I must have over 100 items of make up and I don't really wear much anyway. :o So I think I may as well throw most of them out. They are cluttering up my room, I don't need them and some of them may go off before I get round to using them. I know it's a waste but I don't think I will ever use them and they are in the way. Am I being sensible here?

Noooo don't throw good stuff away. I had about four boxes of toiletries when I came here, although I made an effort to use up I still have some stuff and my hoarding just transfers to other areas. :o

    Either:
    - eBay them in pot luck job lots so you don't have to list or pack individually
    - give the nice unopened stuff away as Xmas pressies
    - email all your local mates and ask for a modest donation, say 50p per item
    - take them to work and let people help themselves
    - give to charity (they may only take sealed stuff, not sure)
    - Put the job lots on Freecycle as they will collect (neutral territory for safety)
    - Post job lots up on the MSE Freebies board, again for collection.

Sarah - could you not use them to make up 'baskets' for Christmas presents for people??? I bet you can pick up baskets or boxes for cheap in Poundland or Wilko's and it would make Christmas a bit easier??

I got rid of some old bits of make up on Freecycle, someone would always be willing to take it off your hands if you don't want to ebay it.

I've got to get on and put my stuff on ebay, I've done the photos so hopefully won't be too long a process.

I'm quite pleased with all the washing I've done and I've cooked soup ready for week ahead and also made some bramley apple bread.
I've got my own flat :j:j

Now I have to pay the bills

And feed my interiors addiction ;)

I have just been through it and put quite a lot in the bin, to be honest, due to my hoarding tendancies I couldn't be sure of the date of a lot of them:o I have thrown away everything with the seal broken and everything I know to be over 2 years old as I don't want to poison anyone. Everything that I don't want which I know to be under 2 years and has the seal intact will go to the charity shop. I do have a couple of nice things I can give away for xmas as well, so I have saved some money there.

I have 2 large make up bags crammed with (mostly No7) stuff that I have never opened, so I will keep the mascaras and some of the eye shadows and donate the rest, plus some shampoo and other hair stuff. What was I thinking? Cannot believe I have so much carp here. Also found 5 boxes of Lemsip:eek: several boxes of hayfever tablets, several half used boxes of paracetamol and lots of indigestion tablets. :o

On the plus side I have enough lovely stuff to last me a year at least.:j Not much of it is Boots stuff except for some of the make up so in effect I have wasted almost every penny I have spent in there. :o Oh dear. I do have £70 on my Boots card though:rolleyes:

At least it will help with attempting to be frugal this year :o

A lot of it was quite cheap stuff:o so I wouldn't really like to give it away for Christmas but I have saved some of it as it's too nice to throw out and it won't be used by me but I have made one Christmas present and one birthday present out of some of it so have saved a bit there (about £50:j) so quite happy with that.

I do think freecycle is a good idea but I am not that organised and I think that if I give it to charity at least someone will get some use from it and the charity will make some money.

Can't believe I used to come back from Boots with crammed bags having spent £30-£40 ish for £100 worth of stuff and thinking I had got a bargain. This is all the stuff I am now throwing out/giving away. This is why I don't have a house.

Am not sure whether to go to the Boots Christmas Shopping Day this week as I don't think I can be trusted in there. :o
