    Hi all

I see we're all pretty quiet at the moment, and I am worse than anyone. I am sure that when I sit here sagely nodding to your comments, that somehow transforms itself into a post, and you can see what I am thinking...doh... ;)

I am so looking forward to the Sisterhood of the Travelling Bin Bag, since much decluttering is needed here. I had grand plans for selling shedloads of stuff in order to have some spending money for my hols tomorrow, but that somehow didn't materialise. :o Instead I overspent on June's budget and have generally been a Bad Berry. However, I have promised myself that after a week wandering the North Devon coast, I will come back and get on with things. So now I have said this, I will feel obliged to do it (I hope). Do feel free to nag and chastise if needed.

Hope everyone is ok, and that those of you working are not sweltering away. Eco - will check on supersavvy - thanks for that.

Have made a decision sure I said it before but anyway, I'm going to buy a house boat in 5 years time with the equity in the house, so this is the plan, going to declutter the house and sell what I don't need or can't take with me, so when I move I will have no junk. I could do it now but said I would sell my house in 5 years and move so think I'll stick with that idea.

Made a start on the spare room and it made me realise I have too much rubbish, where it's all come from I can't say, so it's going someday soon.

Have never had a go at driving a boat if that's the right word so going to have a holiday on one in a couple of years time to get used to it.

So from now on it's make do and mend, no spending on carp unless I can eat or drink it, and generally no more junk.

Eco - that sounds really lovely. I'm always quite envious of the houseboats moored on the Thames, they look so peaceful and I would love that chilled out vibe. I also like the quirkiness of it.

I'm very nearly almost there.....I'm hoping to exchange tomorrow and complete on Friday.

I was hoping to complete last Friday so this extra week is of course really annoying!! And all these delays mean that I don't really believe I'm going to be moving in 5 days time.....I think it will properly sink in once I get the keys in my hot hands.

I'm also really scared about the whole thing. I'm not very good at financial management. and this mortgage marlarkey is going to take a massive chunk out of my salary each month.

The ends do meet but it does involve being restrained, sticking to a budget and not spending frivously.

I really hope I can manage it. I guess one upside is that I won't have spare cash for junk food so I should manage to keep on with the weightloss......
I've got my own flat :j:j

Now I have to pay the bills

make up that's great about moving, it's annoying how many delay's there are, when I bought my ex out of this house I wondered if I'd manage, I didn't for a while but quickly realised if I didn't sort myself out I'd be renting, didn't want to do that so didn't have much choice. Now it means that the equity in the house will easily pay for a boat and some spare, and then no mortgage, I'm overpaying the mortgage at the mo, so in 5 years time when I plan to do this I'll have 8 years left.

I've thought about house boats before, like you said it's the quirkiness, just feel I could be doing more if I wasn't cleaning a 2 bed house when I don't use some of the rooms, and I store junk. My sis said last time what about your garden, well I know loads of folk with gardens so if I get desperate I'm sure someone would let me use there's.

    Hey guys,

long time no chat - life in Lulaville has been all work & not enough play recently.

Souk - CONGRATULATIONS on your fab new job :j, well done sweetie, I know you work so hard & it's great to see you reaping the rewards :T.

Makeup - Wow to imminent house move :j, how quickly has that come about, I'm sure that you will manage the budgeting; just make sure that all your essential outgoings are covered by your salary & whatever is left is yours to enjoy - simples, obviously as that's why we're all here, to celebrate our money management skills :rotfl:

Eco - hurray for a houseboat ... just a word of caution - do visit as many as possible before you buy to make sure you can really live on one. I've often yearned to return to living on the water but now know that I could never live on a narrow boat, whereas a Dutch barge is perfect. I'm hoping that you're going to rent your house out for a while rather than sell it, so you do have a backup plan should it not turn out to be all that you dreamed of. There is always container gardening for all your fruit & veg requirements :)

Well done Souk, and yay to more money.

Lula I'm always passing the marina's round here which is probably why I think it's a good idea, I'm going to do a couple of hols on them, and I did think if I bought one with some of the equity in the house and lived on it for 6 months I'd know for sure, don't want to rent my house out tho if I can help it. Just getting an idea of what's involved at the moment to see if I can live with the pitfalls, and there's a few started a thread in the Arms, to get some honest opinions.

Eco - good to know you're planing to do some live research first. I was just a bit concerned that you were going to sell your home, buy a boat & then maybe not like it much, if you can maintain both then superb :D Much as I would love to have another boat ( as well as the camper van & rustic cottage in France) I would never give up a land home now.

Winter is not nearly as much fun as summer, although summer does mean constant bobbing up & down as water louts thrash their boats about :rotfl:

The thing that got to me most, was having to park so far away from it, which meant having to wheelbarrow all the shopping & any stuff going in & out across damp, bumpy & muddy fields.

I'm off to have nose at this new thread now & yearn ...
