MSE News: Tory Conference: State pension age could rise early

I suppose internet forums contrast interestingly with real life, where everything is much more subdued, as the "little terriers" are less inclined to bark their opinions for fear of a "clip round the ear." Indeed, the internet probably is the place where "little terriers" can be safely tied up, barking.
You're quite right of course. One usually finds that those with more obnoxious bigoted views only express them on the internet, and never in real life.0 -

Real life:-1. 81% of people agree that the Government should substantially reduce immigration levels to Britain.
2. 60% of Asians believe that there are too many immigrants in Britain.
3. 77% agree that you cannot criticise the amount of immigration, or individual immigrants, without being labelled a racist.
4. 85% agree that immigration is putting too much pressure on public services.
5. 45% of the Black respondents felt that there was too much immigration into Britain.
6. 76% of people agree that Britain is overcrowded.
7. 62% of people think that Britain will soon lose its unique identity if immigration continues as it is.
8. 76% think that there is, a fair amount (52%) or a great deal (24%), of tension between races and nationalities.

Look, i8change, as much as i know you'd like to turn every thread into a discussion on immigration, go take it to another forum. This is about pensions.0

Some limited immigration can be positive, but you only look at things in cold economic terms. I look at them in human terms. Would you like Scotland to be fully populated with non-Europeans?
I think you look at things from a truly Luddite perspective.
What I want for Scotland is as relevant as what the original Picts wanted. Did they want the Norse, the Gaels and the Normans? Change happens, Mark. Deal with it.
If it's good for the PEOPLE of Scotland - whoever and wherever they've come from - it's good. Immigration WILL happen. Outsourcing WILL happen. We WILL enrich people who want to get off their rear end and WORK - but only as a by-product. Everything finds it's level.
Looking forward to your pay freeze?0 -
Some limited immigration can be positive, but you only look at things in cold economic terms. I look at them in human terms. Would you like Scotland to be fully populated with non-Europeans? The identity of a country is its people - change that and you remove the identity forever. This is the big issue for the West, not economics or such like. We are at risk of mass influx from a third world that has more mobility than ever before. Western values and civilisation are at risk from extremist religious views brought along by many of these immigrants.
Now you will doubtless scream 'racist' and other insults. Flame away!
Seriously marklv, you really have revealed an interesting side to yourself in the last couple of days. I wonder if you meant to, because what lingering respect you had on this forum for sticking to your views in an admittedly hostile environment, has just disappeared with comments like this.
It's not about being racist or not because deep down I don't think you are racist (despite the comment about Scotland being over-run with non-Europeans suggesting you're ok with European settlers, so long as they look the same as the Scots) . . . . . .it's just that any of your comments above can be ripped apart by anyone with a modicum of intelligence and leave you looking utterly bereft of sense.
I feel almost sorry for you - debating with you now has lost its edge.0 -

Still busy on here little doggie?A wise man speaks because he has something to say; a fool because he has to say something. (Plato)0 -

That's the spirit guys. Well done. Two of MSE's great minds working in tandem.
I was looking to engage in a discussion with adults because I'm genuinely interested in your views. I don't agree with them but that's the whole point of discussion. What is this forum for, if not for discussing different viewpoints?
Of course, if you prefer playground tactics you really do nothing more than confirm what people on here already suspect.0 -
