    Morning all!

Grey and gloomy weather here! dd1 is off on a geography field trip, so hope it stays dry, dd2 has a green day at school, assume it is an ecological type green day, not a celebration of either the colour or the band, anyway she has gone off in a green vest with no jumper, so hope the weather warms up too! dd3 is home, she has a hacking cough and was awake most of the night. ds is in a mood with me for some reason, so was quite pleased when he toddled off to school! He was fine when I picked him up from rugby training last night, but by the time we arrived home he was all stroppy - the joys of teenage boys!

Not much done here so far, wm and bm on, need to put pots away and make me and dd3 some brekkie in a mo, then pack as I'm off to oh's for the weekend, kids dad is coming to stay here with them - something we are meeting to discuss, it's becoming just a bit weird having him stay here I think.

Got some reduced mushrooms in Mr T's last night, along with fennel and apples, so will need to chop mushrooms and fennel and freeze today, ready for use next week, may turn some of the mushrooms into pate actually, haven't made that for a good while. Also need to put jam maker on with ds's chilli sauce he requested - ideal for that as really don't need litres of hot spicy chilli sauce! Might have a go at some more lime pickle next week, have lots of limes in the freezer, would like to recreate the one we had last night when we tried a new curry place, was hot and spicy, but not too much, and had loads of flavour as well, will do some recipe research!

Lunch for big kids was cheese and salad bagettes, apples, mars bar (woohoo, must be Friday!) and some crisps (we're all off to hell in a handbasket today!). Me and dd3 and oh will grab something quick and easy.

Dinner for kids will be pasta with tom sauce, with all the veg that need using up, so prob courgette, carrots, celery, aubergine, peppers - poss best that I save the sprouts for something else! Will do some garlic bread too. I will eat later with oh, will have to see what is lurking in his cupboards!

Watching Forbidden Kingdom at the mo, so will pause it whilst hop off to do brekkie, great film though if you haven't seen it, have a good day all xx

    Edit:
Bitsy - good luck if they come today
Penpin - hope you feel better when you wake up again
Essexgirl - my thoughts are with you, I loath play areas! Hope the bday boy has fun though!
Thrifty - damn you! Payday today and I'm going to give in and just order the blinkin books! My ds and oh are huge rib fans too, even the girls seem to have developed a liking for them, though they could just be eating them to annoy ds or oh!
Celyn - enjoy your film and muffin recipe please - they look lovely, mine never seem to crack properly on top!

    Morning all,

Just a quick hello as I'm off to Ikea and then shopping in Cardiff in a bit. It's an hour or so away from me. I'm driving to my friends 20mins away and then she is driving there as she has the bigger boot!

I have my 5 books so I can get the free £5 voucher :)

Hope all is well, have a good day

    x

ps fingers crossed that my headache is on the way out!

  • Morning all,

Nothing much planned for today for me so I shall probably spend some time tidying around and getting some washing done. I need to fetch some sugar to finish my apple and blackcurrant jelly so a quick trip to the shop but hopefully I wont buy anything else! I've also got some dough in the fridge to make more bread rolls so I'll get that done. I really should tackle defrosting the freezer but not sure I'm quite ready for that - it's one of those jobs that I really dislike doing.

I've noticed a credit in my bank which looks like the holiday insurance company have paid up for my claim for cancelling my trip. If it is then the naughty people have taken my excess off twice - I need to double check and query it. The post hasn't arrived yet and with the strikes it could be ages before I get any confirmation of what it is. Of course it might not be the insurance at all (but I don't know what else it could be) so if anyone has deposited quite a large amount of money in my bank - thankyou :T

Lunch will be a bacon butty on HM bread and dinner is going to be steamed veg and potatoes with chicken breast stuffed with roasted pepper and pesto in filo pastry. I buy the pastry frozen in blocks from Aldi and one block is a bit too much so I'm going to make some sausage and leek parcels with the remainder for tomorrow. The recipe originally came from a Delicious! magazine for the sausage parcels and it's become one of my favourites. It could just the pastry though as I'm a bit of a pastry fiend!

It's a bit of a judgement based thing more than a recipe really, but here goes!

chop mushrooms and onion (one med onion to about 250g pack of mushrooms), fry till soft in a little olive oil with some garlic (dependent on taste), blitz for few seconds in blended (I just use my stick blender), mix with a tub of quark (until it looks like pate consistency, not sure if I use 500g or 250g of mushrooms to a tub) or cream cheese, I use quark as it's cheaper, season with salt and pepper (will taste less seasoned when it cools remember), add some chopped parsley if you like it and decant into small pate sized tubs or ramekins. It can be eaten once cooled and chilled, or frozen - may need a quick stir after defrosting, but looks and tastes fine.

Really quick and easy to make, and far far cheaper than the tiny tubs in the supermarket, esp when you find mushrooms reduced to 20p like I did last night!

Hi every one! I'm so very new here.

We've had a very tough time financially lately, we've lost our home and are now in a lovely rented property but money is tight. A friend from another board told me to come here and I'm thrilled with everything i've been reading.

I'm learning not to squander money and I feel so liberated! It's a very exciting time for me right now. I'm changing as a person, my dream of being a stay at home mum has come true albeit at the cost of our financial security but I guess you don't give up work to become a childminder in the middle of a recession.

Anyway, just saying hi, I'm off to clean my shower screen with a bit washing up liguid and newspaper!

Hello! I use white vinegar solution to clean shower screen as it really shifts limescale.

Tuesday was funeral for DH's auntie and then two Dds had to go back to work and to uni- seems strange without them now.

While the sales were on we treated dd (15) to a new bed, replaced her old single with a double and got 75% reduced and free delivery (next Wednesday).

Made pea and ham soup yesterday and had sliced gammon and home made chips for tea.

Might make potato, onion and bacon hotpot tonight as we have not had that for ages.

Hugs to MSD, pennypincher and anyone else who could use one.
