Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Friday 2nd October. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning all
Sorry to have been MIA but my friends father died two nights ago and I have been with her. He had been ill for a long time and in a way it's a relief, as he had no quality of life, but there is so much to be done and sorted so my OH helped me to her house and I spent the night there with her on Weds and helped her with some of the official stuff that has to be done yesterday.
Bargainbird - So sorry to hear of your familys' loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Thriftlady - Thank you for the recipe I am going to try that, it sounds delicious
Pink - Big hugs honey, hope your daughter feels better soon
Jayward - Happy to hear that your OH has his job back, that is great news.
Haribo and Jayward - Thank you so much for missing me, I was touched that you both noticed.
Floss - I am with you - sometimes the only thing that hits the spot is hot buttered toast and marmite!
Curlytop - Oh gosh honey I am so sorry - what horrible news and you mustn't feel bad for worrying about that first call, but you will be fine, you seem such a caring chap and that is all she will need from you - to know you care.
Cranky, threejays, Tru, Lesley, ladygrim, Squiggles grouphug3.gif
Thank you to everyone who said they enjoyed reading my comments on the recipe I attempted, I have to admit I hoped they would make people smile as my OH and I were certainly laughing about it afterwards!
Not much OS-iness to report as I haven't been here, but my OH and I sat down and worked out yesterday that apart from about £5 we kept to our grocery budget for the first time in about four months so that was really positive. woohoo1.gif
Today is a quiet day as normal so I shall try and get some reviews written to earn a few pennies and start shopping around for both a new kettle (the lid has broken on ours so you have to fill through the spout!) and a new dinner service as the homehelp broke one of my gorgeous big heavy square plates . I am not in a hurry to replace either items but like to window shop and save things in my favourites to go back to so that when I am ready or when I see a great deal, I can make a choice.
Lunch will be granary rolls and ham with tomatoes, orange peppers, shallots and chillis (all grown in the garden) made into a kind of salsa. Dinner will be - macaroni cheese I think.
Warm gentle hugs.giffor anyone who wants one!

    Morning Guys!

Ive had a bad night and cant sleep. Not feeling too good at all. I think I am worrying about too many things which I cant do anything about.

Had my hair cropped yesterday and looks pixie like again:rolleyes: and she said it has thinned alot again:o

Freinds have invited us for coffee and cake this morning so will see how I am. They are both really down atm so I think I need to see them really.

WM is programmed to come on at 5.30 to finish at 7 and the DW will go on after breakfast. Nurse here at 8. House clean and tidy.

Breakfast for DD will be a bacon/egg butty. It fills her up till lunch time and Friday is her busy busy day. She has a jeans day today so she is wearing her purple ones:rolleyes: and do her rock chic look.

I forgot to say that DD was made Prefect the other day:D

Abel and Cole refunded the money and are sending out a different pie next week:j:j:j

Anyway, I hope all is well and am going to try and get back to sleep.

    Hugs to all.

    Morning everyone.
A quick one from me. Today could be the day that Ofsted will come. Or they might not. This is what I hate most, not knowing but then that is their point  I am lucky that at least I know what day of the week they are coming!
Very little OS today then as mindee will be here. Have a birthday party to go to after nursery pick up this afternoon so the kids should have fun.

Diva - very sorry about your friends news x

Penny - hope you feel better when you wake up. Easier said than done I know but worrying is a waste of time and effort, especially when you can't do anything about the things you are worrying about. Hope you can try and switch off to it for a bit. Love the sound of DD's purple jeans though :D

Right am logging off. Got things to do.
Have a good day OS or not.

    Morning all

Another nice day here, although we are forcast rain tomorrow, so maybe back to normal october weather.

Off to work again today, and like Haribo I have had a terrible working week, sick to death of spread sheets, and financial databases , I shall be glad when today is over.

Tea tonight will either be chicken curry and rice, (quorn one for dd) or mushroom pasta, will see which I feel like cooking after work.

Will tidy through this morning, and will get at least one wash done tonight, also its Friday so its wine night , looking forward to that.

Aussie the River cobbler fish fingers were lovely :p, I can send you some over if you like ???? :D

Haribo, How exciting re the chickens arriving today :T, enjoy them, and take some photos if you get a chance, I bet your girlies are very excited xx

    Have good days all xx

Bitsy, good luck for today xx

    Morning all,

It's been a warm day over here. Went to the shops and library this morning. JackieO - I've just got a book on The Lonely Empress (Elizabeth of Austria) by Joan Haslip. Looks great too. Could you tell me what your book is called & the author so I can order it in? I hope your DD fares better today.

DS2 came up after lunch for a visit and DD is coming over tonight and we're all going to the Club for tea & drinky poo. :D Off to Ikea with DS2 & DD tomorrow. I hope to meet up with DSis one day next week. Aren't I the little social butterfly. :D

    Jayward That's fab news.
Bitsy Good luck. I'm sure you'll do well.

Hope you all have a great day. N9eav must be on a big police operation or he's sleeping in every morning. :D Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

Sorry to hear your friends news MSD

Good luck for today Bitsy (if they come)

Its Friday :jat long last, looks like with a nice day again weather wise but definately more of a chill in the air this morning. Woke up later than normal am finding it much harder to get up in the morning atm.

Just doing some essential stuff in the office this morning then will ignore everything else & get on with some housework. The bathrooms need a good scrub.

No need to cook tonight, off out for DS' postponed birthday celebrations. 6 kids at the local play area then off to McD's. Not my favourite by any stretch but DS' choice.

So OS today will be loads of stardrops and vinegar & maybe a touch of soda crystals.

    Have a great Friday.x

    Good morning everybody:wave:

Looks like it is going to be a nice day today. Ds1 has just left laden down with luggage. He's off on a residential field trip in Wales until Sunday. They'll be kayaking, cliff traversing and the like. Just his cup of tea;)

This morning I must get a replacement bottle of wine for the one we accidentally drank last night -oops! I'm going to the fishmonger to buy something for supper. Will pop to the farmshop for cream as well.

Jobs today are changing bedlinen on our bed, cleaning the bathroom and ironing.

Must remember to get a couple of chickens out of the freezer for tomorrow, will have to leave them on the counter to defrost. I was planning roast chicken for Sunday and sticky spare ribs for tomorrow but DS1 saw me looking at the spare ribs recipe (River Cottage book) and said 'ooh, they look yummy', 'yes', I said 'we're having them on Saturday'. His face fell 'but I won't be here on Saturday'. I'd forgotten he'd be away, so I'm swapping the meals round, ds1 loves his ribs.

I'm roasting two chickens so that we have lots of leftovers. I want to use some in the packed lunches as well as for meals.

Breakfast was porridge with blueberries/banana/sultanas and honey or golden syrup. I had a blueberry smoothie and a piece of my sour dough toast-yum.

Lunchboxes are dull today-cheese rolls, muffins and apples. I shall have a cheese and onion toastie I think.

Supper will be fish. Not sure what yet, depends what the fishmonger has that's cheap, ethical, British and that everyone likes:rolleyes:

    Morning all :)

Bargainbird ((hug)) for you and yours

Not quite as early start for me as normal, for a change :) It's seminar day, so my afternoon is wiped out.

I went to the library yesterday, I need to pop back to get a movie for tonight. OH is off to the US for work on Saturaday afternoon, so we are having a quiet night in tonight and I need to go early (not 10.00 pm, like last night!). I need to cook, but I'm not sure what. I will wander down to the market to find some meat later I think. OH had the back wheel stolen from his bike last night too, which was annoying as he only had it replaced a few days ago.

Last night we had garlic pak choi, fried tofu and rice - I have the same for lunch today :) I made mini muffins and big muffins last night (mental note not to bake at 11 pm again, but OH was writing his presentation for the conference, so I wouldn't have slept anyway) Someone from work wanted the recipe and I had to make it and weigh everything then write it down, because normally I just pour everything into a bowl for choclate cake - which is commonly termed "celyn's unpredictable inconsistant suprise cake" in that it's never bad, but it's never quite the same as last time :) I had to take step-by-step photos too as the mix always looks too sloppy and it's hard to explain without a picture :)

Here is muffin and son of muffin :D

    CIMG2237.jpg

    And mini-muffin's-mini-minions... :D

    CIMG2240.jpg

I will be spending my weekend with a friend as OH is away - she has to hand her thesis in next week (not the one I was reading last week) and is very stressed as she also works for Dr Jeckyll (my former boss) who is living up to his reputation as the Prince of Darkness. She's had such bad luck recently and he just doesn't let up. I will take my laptop and do my paperwork at her house so she has to sit and write and hopefully that will calm her down so she's in the state she can work. She will be fine I am sure, she just needs to take it step by step. Most people take six months or more to write up, Dr Jeckyll gives six to eight weeks to produce a 500 page document from scratch and expecting his students to pull all-nighters just to hand in on time isn't right :(

Right, must get to work - have a good day all, cel x
