Just got an email back from 123reg saying this

The speed of the site is affected as you have Google Analytics added on the E Commerce package which means every page is tagged with code to collect data.

You can remove this function by changing the DNS for the domain back to directly pointing to the E Commerce server IP 94.136.40.185 in the Manage DNS page.

Im going to give that a try but will lose my analytics so that's a bit annoying but not the end of the world.

I would ignore them , google's servers are silly quick, and if you look at firebug net panel, its all their servers taking ages to transfer from (when it is slow).

It seems alright now thp, 282kb, 1.14sec nothing from cache.

I just tried the site (O2 running ~ 10Mbps and normally delivers that speed) and it was dire.

http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/wickedlyinnocent.co.uk shows it is normally OK though.

I haven't read through the thread but I assume it is on a shared server - they can hold thousands of websites and it only takes a few popular ones to saturate their bandwidth.

My experience of google analytics is that the impact on performance is unnoticeable so long as you follow their advice and put the script right at the bottom of the page (which you appear to have done).

Ok been using the Firebug tool and can see what has been said about the storefrontstyle_5.css request.

I have emailed them to see what they say about it and to see if they can move me to a different server.

On my tests the storefrontstyle_5.css request was taking 5-10 sec and only once that had loaded would it load the rest of the files. I also told them that google was only taking 500ms to load so cant see why that was the problem.

i will let yous know what they say.

Via IE 8 and running on Virgin Media XL (up to 20mb) broadband/cable modem, it took 3 seconds to load.
  • I checked the code and I don't see any problem in that. this is loading pretty quick.
  • Next time you have the issue, download firebug into FF and use that to see what is causing the hold up. I have tried this and seems to take 1-2 secs per page.
