  • Hi everyone, can I join in? been a runner on and off for a number of years now but due to generally being a lazy sod have let myself get out of shape these last few months, I was doing 40m a week in the first half of this year but am back to building up my base again.

After weeks of saying 'I am going for a run today'......I went for a run today!!!! only 3 miles and was very slow but it was good to be out again, can't believe I was running LSR's of 12 -15miles only a few months ago, that seems an age away now.

So I am back to getting fitter not fatter and aiming to get back into my skinny jeans at some point before the end of this decade.

Hopefully by dropping in on here I can get some tips to keep my motivation up

Welcome milliemonster! Well done for simply getting back out there, I bet when you got back you thought 'Why didn't I do that earlier?'

You'll soon regain that fitness level, how about entering a shortish race to help focus your training?

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.
  • Awwww thanks for the welcome Linda!!! Yes I do keep thinking about entering a race, I may have a look to see what 10k's are on in Dec/Jan. It was great to be out there again and yes you are right, I do wish I had done it earlier, MUCH earlier and I may not have gained the stone and a half I have!!!!

But, it's no good dwelling on what has passed, I have to look forward now and I'm itching to get my mileage back up to where it was, although I know the 10% rule and will have to take it easy for a few weeks til I get back into the swing of things

Anyone know of any good 10ks' coming up in Yorkshire soon?

  • Congratulations on getting a PB for the half Rich :T

And a huge WELL DONE to Uk - that's a fantastic achievement especially with a 'dodgy toe'. :T :j Looking forward to your race report.

There's been loads of good running taking place today so well done Linda, Chick, Becky, bj and kms. :D

Hi milliemonster - welcome to the thread. Stick with the running (and popping in here) and you'll soon be up to 12-15 mile LSR's again. ;)

  • Hmmm Leeds Abbey Dash on 22nd Nov, might be a bit too soon for me, that gives me 2 weeks to get back up to 6 miles, I could probably do it but reckon it would be hard!

I might just take some inspiration from you guys with your race reports for now until I'm running more easily again and then look at some races. I'd love to get into fell running as I love being in the hills but running on the flat at the mo is an achievement lol!!!

Jane Tomlinson 10k would be good to enter because there's plenty of time before it and the atmosphere on the day is brilliant! :T

Whereabouts in Yorkshire are you millie? Have you thought about joining a club?

Millie, a race to consider is the Dewsbury 10K at the beginning of Feb....its flat and cheaper than the big charity races. These are the results from the 2009 race:
