Nope I get it now - I was being thick! :o:o

Just a point - to get benefit from an interval session for long distance training you need to be running for 2 minutes or more (it is 2 isnt it Rich or is it 4) as this is the point at which you reach VO2 max and are therefore extending your threshold.

My advice would be to swtich the times round - run slightly slower than you were for 2 mins and then have a minutes rest, its also a good idea to map how far you are getting in that two mins. You'll notice most of us do fixed distance intervals - therefore when the time decreases we are improving. As you are doing fixed time ones you'll need to note when the distance is increasing as you are running further in the same time span (or faster if you like :D).

You do not need to be running eyeballs out for intervals - you need to be working at about 80% of maximum effort for short intervals and about 70% for longer ones - you should always feel that you can complete the next one, but be out of breath at the end of each if that makes sense??

If you're sprint training then ignore me

Any chance I could send you the 10km plan i'm following and see what you think? x

    Wakey, wakey, rise and shine!:p

It looks like being perfect running conditions this morning so should be some good racing to be had...makes a nice change from that long sting of 'hot' weekends.

For those not racing, enjoy your relaxed Sunday runs!:D

Sorry, KMS, cutting your sleep short like that is unforgivable. We'll be looking out for the red Fetch shirt then!

KYCU - How did it go then? Heaton Park is not the easiest parkrun to start out on (although the 'Winners' list always makes pleasant reading;)).

Have a good run all x
  • heaton park was wet and cold but we arrived about 10mins before the start. Did a little bit of a warm up. Managed to get round without stopping had to grit my teeth a couple of times when i got passed by people. The hills didnt bother me at all in fact i passed a few people going up them. I got a stitch between mile one and two that took forever to get rid of. I thought i had ages to go when i realised I was at the 4k marker and there was a group of four in front of me so i cranked up the pace to get on their heels and pass them which involved in running through some big puddles turned the corner onto the home straight and there were two people in my sights, one was an oldish guy that had passed me earlier (hope i can run like that at his age) I passed him although i was pretty much gasping for breath at this point I closed down on the next guy in front but he heard me and kept me at bay! So i have a PB but i dont know exactly what it is.

Really enjoyed it, nice people, nice race, I have a real competitve streak in me and sprinting for1k is probably not the best idea :rotfl:. I will deffo go again if i have time.

  • Bleugh - I'm ill

Pesky cold has gone to my chest - feels similar to the respiratory virus I had back in May and I'm out of breath just walking round the house. So it's time to be simplysensible and have a few days rest until things return to normal.

KYCU - well done, sounds like you had a great time at the parkrun. :T

Happy running everyone - enjoy those perfect conditions today. :D
