Hope you get better soon simply, tuck up with a hot drink and watch crappy tv!
  • Thanks KYCU and evab - I've been lucky to avoid it this long as it's been doing the rounds at work for a couple of weeks. Feet up and pamper time for me then (once I've stopped feeling annoyed for missing my LSR) :D

Just got back from Lancaster - perfect weather and course so no problems there. The only fly in the ointment was a little 'puddle' just after 8 miles. Now when I say puddle I actually mean half the Irish Sea all sat in this lane that our little race was routed down.

So splish, splash, splosh it was - you had to get through as best you could (but boy it was cold:eek:). In reality it was probably 5-600m long and added maybe 1-2 minutes to the time. There was also the problem of then having to run with very heavy soaking feet for the next couple of miles, which didn't help....so I reckon all in all it probably cost about 3 minutes (but we'll see what the others think).

But taking that into account I am definitely happy with a new fastest 1/2 marathon even if I was aiming for 1:22.:D

Becky completed her 'training' run in 2:06:51 but didnt particularly enjoy it and Chickadee just dipped under 2 hours (1:59:42) which shows a remarkable return to form on what I believe is quite a low training base. A 1:38 for Chick's OH was also a solid return to form.

Didnt quite manage to bump into KMS - theres far too many of those Fetch shirts around.:p

You'll soon be bouncy and healthy again, Simply!:D

Back from my first cross country run, it was an experience!
We cheered the juniors on, both of ours did really well!
I was glad that I'd taken my fleece because it was pretty cold stood around waiting but lovely to watch a couple of beautiful red kites gliding above.
I was very pleased that the organisers observed the 2 minutes silence for remembrance day before we set off on our 4 mile run.

Not having trail shoes made it very difficult for me to run properly let alone grip the route!
I'm not sure that this cross country lark is for me but I would like to do another now I know what it's like.

I have definitely joined the right running club, they are so friendly and cheer everyone in whether first, last and from all teams.
I was one of the last in of our lot and they were all jumping up and down shouting and cheering me on which felt great :D
The club that dominated the meeting were a bit snobby and one of the Dads seperated their team's juniors out on the junior start line to take a photograph leaving the few other kids from other teams out, you could see how uncomfortable they looked which I thought was a bit off, I would have encouraged them ALL to get in on the picture!

I also now have my official Eccleshill Roadrunners vest top too! :T

Had a nice shower and my lunch and I'm now watching The Wizard of Oz with dear daughter
    ...Linda xx
It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

A big congratulations to UK who has completed the Athens Marathon today.

In spite of what were probabaly quite oppressive conditions, predicted as very rainy and 20c, and the 'dodgy toe' he ran a pretty even race to finish in 3:53:10.

The next one is bound to be better conditions, UK, so that is a good marker put down!

And Bj completed the 10K in 1:11:26....so a big well done there too!

Linda, I'm glad you enjoyed your cross country run. You'll be one of those 'nutter' fell runners before you know it! See, you're already talking about trail shoes. Its all downhill from here ;).

Well, as Rich has very ably documented, Lancaster was quite an experience. How he managed to keep his trainers quite so clean is a mystery. The 'puddle' is something we can laugh about now, but as we were high-stepping our way through calf-deep freezing cold muddy water for 500m it wasn't that amusing. Still, its one to remember, and it was lovely to meet Becky and see Rich again.

I am very pleased to have just dipped under the 2-hour mark. I really didn't think I'd be able to do that so it was a great surprise. I was running well at 5 miles, keeping more or less to 9-min miles and I just thought I'd try to keep that pace up for as long as I could. It started to fall apart at about 11.5 miles, but willpower got me over the line. I really felt the lack of long runs in my legs so I know what I need to do to be both faster and more comfortable in the later stages.

I'll upload the photo later if you're both OK with that. Haven't looked at it yet so I don't know if it is a good one.

I wonder how UK has got on in Athens today. (Cross-posted with Rich)

A fantastic result UK, especially considering that your taper wasn't quite as planned. Well done!
