Nice one rich, you said you should feel good tonight
At least we know you don't need a hip replacement just yet! :rotfl:
Well I have had 2 days of not a lot other than rest, so I would have been surprised if it hadnt felt pretty strong.:D
Cheeky! I think I prefer to keep my own hips for the time being. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the NHS offerings but I'm rather attached to my own!:pGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Hello all - winge warning!
Week 17 - W4/9 to Reindeer 10k
Mon 26/10 - no run - in London with a couple of blisters
Thu 29/10 - 2.12m 26:11 - this is the first time I have run any hills and I gave up after completing 2 of the 4 laps I had planned. I found it really hard, didn't feel like I got into any sort of rhythm & then started to feel niggles all over too  I wish I had just gone and done my normal 4m flat route today tbh as I am just feeling really deflated now
Anyway the run is done and I will do better next time x
The key with hills is to try to keep the effort level the same as when running on the flat, letting the speed drop off. As we were saying yesterday, this will automatically mean a reducing of the stride length to what may seem to be less than a walking stride but dont be concerned.
Just try to lean into the hill and keep the effort level consistent. If you find it harder and harder as you're climbing a hill then you need to ease off the pace a little more until you feel that you've 'conquered' said hill.:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Hi evab :hello: Feeling a bit off colour and hoping it'll come to nothing - an early night is in order I think. Too many bugs about at work for my liking
How are you doing?
Doesn't Rich do great explanations? He makes it all sound so easy. :rotfl:2021 MFW No.18 £9900/£10,000Mortgage at 21.07.20 £178,999 Mortgage today £150,8910 -
Oh hope you're OK, pesky bugs that's the problem when people insist on working when they're not well.
Rich is great, oh sorry rich didn't see you there! Just talking about you!0 -
Hehe Its alright, I'm not listening...:p:p
Just noticed that they've given me an official UK ranking for the marathon in the V40 age group........305th (and the very last person at the moment to qualify for a ranking).

So we all know that the right diet is fairly important for performing well but to illustrate the point that you can be pretty relaxed about what that 'right diet' is, this is about the man who inspired a lot of us to start running:
"..........a steelworker's son whose racing philosophy was "always to devastate the opposition", who was fuelled by Coke, Mars bars and meat pies when he broke the world marathon record in Chicago and by 10 pints of cider (the night before) when he clocked a world half marathon record of 61min 14sec in Birmingham the same year."
We copied his diet but couldnt quite manage his times!
And to prove the point, he is now teetotal and expects to run about 5 hours in the New York Marathon on Sunday. So 2:07 with alcohol, 5 hours without ..........alcohol is good, obviously!:D
A proper Alf Tupper. This was his quote about breaking the marathon world record on his first completed attempt at the distance:
"I didn't even know what the world record was," he said. "I just ran to win."
And dont think Paula was the first......
London 1985 Jones prevailed in 2hr 08min 16sec – despite having to stop for an emergency road-side dump while running neck and neck with fellow Briton and Olympic bronze medallist Charlie Spedding with four miles to go. "I didn't shake hands with him at the finish but that wasn't because he had beaten me," Spedding said.

Good morning! I've been quiet of late so I thought I'd come back to say I'm still alive! Been out with the running club twice again this week. Tuesday was a 1 mile run asa warm up to our "starting point" then we ran a 1K circuit at "10K pace twice with a 60 second recovery time and then 400meters out and back followed by the 1 mile jog back to the clubhouse. Total time 1 hour 5 mins.
Last night was entitled "St Georges Steps which was a 2 mile run to our "starting point" at the beach. We walked down the sliproad onto the beach, ran across and then up some steep steps to the top and then a hard run back to the top of the sliproad. Then walked back down the sliproad, back along the soft sand (which is bloomin hard work to run on!) and back up another steep flight of stairs. Then walk down the sliproad and run back on it!
And then the 2 mile run back! My legs were all wobbly after the uphill and the steps!

Sounds fun k_bagpuss!
I'm going to do a gentle 4-5 miles tomorrow I think, then it's on with Becky's Custom Running Plan (TM) on Monday - really looking forward to trying out a properly structured planDebt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0
