Thank you for the warm welcome and advice. I will go for a walk this afternoon and see how far I get.

    Jess

Do you go out alone Jess?

And have you looked to see if there is a Parkrun near you?

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

I purposely got the protein bars for him but he nicked all the other bars too while saying "My precious" and squirrelled them all away. :(

I managed to keep hold one one sachet of powder :o

Well, I didn't make the parkrun today. I got halfway there and felt a rumbling in my gut and had to turn around to avoid doing a "Paula". Fairly rare for me, I put it down to a hangover from last night. That can play havoc with my guts. Anyway, hope all is well for the focus of my week, tomorrow's 20 miler!

    Happy running, all!

Hehe I had the same self-inflicted rumblings, Beer Tins, so I empathise!:(

Luckily they've just re-opened the loos in Leeds Hyde Park after being closed for months...:T:p

Good luck tomorrow with the 20 (ish) miler.

  • Hope everyone is well :D

I am not :( Really loaded with the cold can hardly breathe and I am night shifts! Feel really sorry for myself.

Only managed out once this week due to the snow and now my cold. Hopefully next week will be a better one.

I am now trying to prepare myself for another 12 hour shift, will probably get complaints when I go in for keeping the patients awake all night with my coughing fits :D
  • I'm reding this thread cos thats all i can do......lol. GNW thread is rumbling on at RW like a dinosaur that forgot its extinct. Jess welcome and you have been given really good advice take note of it and you'll be doing good!

Julie theres always walking if you have a cold, dont run if its on your chest. ah you do 12hrs shifts, your probably better of getting more sleep than going for a walk, unless you can pace up and down the ward :D.

How do you measure the distance you cover, use a pedometer or just have a regular route?

When you get serious, you can get a GPS watch that tells you exactly how far you've done. Until then, pop on to mapmyrun.com and start mapping. Will tell you the exact length of each route you do, or plan - try and remember a couple of makers (mainly where halfway is, where a mile from home it etc) and off you go.

In other news, did my first non-gentle run of the year today (well, aside from the pesky sprints the other day :)), 6.8 miles in 55mins. Felt good, actually. Ran the last mile or so at 7:30 pace and was doing fine...

I seem to be struggling to find my stride at the mo, the first couple of miles are hard work, but once I settle in, I feel good and strong...my fitness really doesn't seem as far off the pace as it should be, given all the sitting I've been doing - and the cake I've been eating :)

Is a tricky start a symptom of cake addiction, or am I just out of practice?
