    Nice one Linda.

It was an item for discussion on the agenda for the Leeds committee meeting last Saturday so I assume their expertise is likely to be on offer in the setting up.

Although on Saturday they seemed to be pumping us for information, knowing we'd done a few, on how they compared to the other venues!:D

Could it be done with 2 laps of Lister Park?....at first glance I thought it would need at least part of a 3rd lap, which may not be a problem but the courses that are maximum 2 laps tend to work better.

Well done on the progress though - there should be plenty interest.

It'll be 2.5 laps just like Hyde park, the question is--- up the hill by the side of Emm Lane or down it???? What do you think?

The guys from Hyde Park have offered to come and measure the route properly, either that or there's a chap at Horsforth Harriers who is a proper route measuring chap!

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

What a difference in facilities they have in Colwyn Bay, the leisure centre is great it has a pool, fitness suite, bowling, squash, an athletics track and loads more. It's fab!

I can't even find a running track local to me, Denbighshire is rubbish in comparision we even go swimming in another county because the facilities are so poor. I think it's time to get in contact with the local council and find out what they are going to do about our facilities.

Oh I might even try and find out whether a parkrun could be set up at Eirias Park (Colwyn Bay) as the grounds are huge. Apart from parkrun and Conwy council, who else would be good to approach?

local running clubs would be good, any local sports businesses who could help with start up costs

Yes, get all the set up info from Park run, scout out a couple of possible locations and score them according to Parkrun's template.
Look for a park with good parking and access, where you can do the 5k route in 2 laps or less, toilets and a coffee shop would be good and ideally a path that doesn't cross right in front of a playground, skatepark etc. No steps, gravel paths, ditches or awkward routes that would require more marshalls than necessary.

then approach the council with the idea, you'll need to ask them about permission, storage for equipment and is there any help with set up costs.

OK exciting little project, the 2nd parkrun for Wales and the first in the North (unless anyone else has had the same idea!)

ummmmm there isn't a park big enough here...few laps around a field would be ok
I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....
    Finally Debt Free...
  • You contact parkrun first.

But I would be a bit cautious about going down the route of starting one up because you want to run in a parkrun.

The organising is a big job. Not many race directors get to run, I can only think of Wimbledon and Basingstoke and thats because they dont really need marshalls on course.

A voluteer pool of around 50 people is needed for the smooth running of an event, not necessarily at the outset but certainly in the first few months.

So it is usual for parkruns to form as spin offs from another event where there is a known demand or through a club being keen to get one going.
