Okay fourth post in a row
Mon - 6.24 miles in 56:47 8:56 mins/mile
Rather windy out with some snow so pretty cold, no real problems though except I am not sure about my new shoes - but I think they just feel heavy after the racing shoes so will give them a little while longer and see

Thanks for the welcome. I have subscribed to this thread, should get to look in every couple of days or so!
Activity wise - I do 20 min Davina workout 1 x weekly with a mate on Tues or Thu, and 1 x 4km run with the same mate on either the Tue or Thu (whichever one we haven't done Davina on, if that makes sense!)
We sometimes feel brave and go for a 7-9km run when we get nearer to the manc 10k in July, but depending on whether I get into the Great North Run or not, I am unsure when/what to start training for a 13 miler cos I've never done that distance. As people are talking about 1 years worth of training for a marathon - should I do 6 months for a half marathon? As the GNR is in Sept, I should start doing 10/13 miles now - help!
I set my targets high and am relatively fit (not smoking is good too I think) but I don't really have any idea how to work towards a goal like 13 miles - any assistance welcome - you all seem very helpful too!
Okay great you are already doing 4k a week in one run which is great.
There's a 'magic' training threshold at 4 miles which we need to get you up to, but on one run a week you wont make much progress (it will be very slow rather than none at all). You already have a long term and medium term goal which is also good news.
Therefore I would aim of you can to up to 3 runs a week of 4k over the next few weeks. Once you have got there you start extending the distance of one of these runs by around a 1k a week until you reach 2 weeks before the June race - if you do that consistently you should have over shot the 10km distance which is always a good idea as it stops you tiring out too much at the end.
From there you can build towards the half by upping the long run some more and increasing the other two runs as well - you have plenty of time
So for now - do your 4ks until you are happy running it 3 times a week. Keep a note of your times but dont try to run the same pace every run - just run as you feel (the times are so you can look back at your progress later!) and enjoy it:)0 -

Had a reply re: Mr 20 - they are going to look into it but to be fair there's not much they can do - impressed that they replied though!0 -
