Its unusual to have 2 lots of photographers at an event as well - so hopefully there will be a few more later when the first guy gets the rest of his 2,600 up :D

And, talk about playing it for the cameras.....you could have had at least another 2 seconds off that time.;)

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

    Wow another newbie :)

    Hello Bubbalou!

Okay what are you doing currently activity wise? We recommend to start very slowly with lots of brisk walking and build from there as it prepares you for long term fitness :D

Re: weight loss - I wouldnt worry about it for now, run first when you can get to a decent weekly mileage it should drop off despite eating tons. Its a mistake to try and diet while training though because the body needs carbs and nutrients for running fuel :)

Thanks for the welcome. I have subscribed to this thread, should get to look in every couple of days or so!

Activity wise - I do 20 min Davina workout 1 x weekly with a mate on Tues or Thu, and 1 x 4km run with the same mate on either the Tue or Thu (whichever one we haven't done Davina on, if that makes sense!)

We sometimes feel brave and go for a 7-9km run when we get nearer to the manc 10k in July, but depending on whether I get into the Great North Run or not, I am unsure when/what to start training for a 13 miler cos I've never done that distance. As people are talking about 1 years worth of training for a marathon - should I do 6 months for a half marathon? As the GNR is in Sept, I should start doing 10/13 miles now - help!

I set my targets high and am relatively fit (not smoking is good too I think) but I don't really have any idea how to work towards a goal like 13 miles - any assistance welcome - you all seem very helpful too!

At least he wasnt in the reckoning to take the £400 off Hatti, otherwise there would have been a bit of a trouble!

Don't panic bubbalou, you've got time to get up to GNR fitness, don't rush it and risk injury!

Sooo just being nosey at Boston Marathon (the one you qualify for)...

Looks like Abingdon will still be good for running a qualifying time:
The qualifying window for the 2011 Boston Marathon began on September 26, 2009. Registration for the 2011 Boston Marathon is scheduled to begin in September, 2010 and is expected to fill quickly. Registration for the 2010 Boston Marathon opened on September 9, 2009 and closed on November 13, 2009.

Which is good because the time is 3:40 for women in my age group and i really fancy doing Boston at some point :)
