Howdy gang :hello:
Sore legs reporting from the comfort of home
Haven't even attempted to catchup as that would take a few days I suspect. Suffice it to say :T to all completed races/ runs/training runs and (hugs) to the injured.
Race report
On Saturday morning, went up to St Austell for the first Eden Project marathon. Got there late afternoon so went for a little walk around town to stretch my legs then headed up to the Project for the pasta party and to register. Had to take a taxi as the buses stop running at minutes past 5, so at £17 return taxi plus the £7 I paid for the plate of pasta, it's got to be my most expensive meal to date :eek:. "Pasta party" was definitely a misnomer and you had to buy your own drink, which I didn't bother with. If you got a drink with your meal no-one told me .
Anyway, I didn't stay long and headed back to the hotel and got a good night's sleep. Early rising, good breakfast and was offered a lift with two half marathon participants from Taunton - thanks guys! It was supposed to be dry, with a small chance of rain but someone forgot to remind the weather Gods, as it was fine rain all morning til late afternoon . The course is very hilly which is great if you are a hill/trail runner but not so good if you are from a flat region. Fortunately my trips to Richmond Park/Crystal Palace 'gradients' helped so I didn't fade too badly overall. Plenty of water stations with energy drinks and a couple of sponge stops en route :T. Who'd have thought a wet sponge on a wet day would still be useful?
My time, which I still can't believe, was a fantastic 4:16:31 :eek:. I had decided to use my long run training pace of 9:37 to encourage me to keep a steady pace and not fold, but figured if I did the course in 4:30 that would be an improvement on the 4:44 I did last year.
When I saw the clock I couldn't believe it and was convinced it was wrong/I was seeing things/it was somebody else's time :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Once I'd crossed the finish line I got my free t-shirt and a medal and had a free leg massage - great idea! Runners had free entry to wander around the Project but I was too tired and just wanted to get out of my wringing wet clothes and head back to the hotel for a warm shower/food and sleep. Such as shame the weather wasn't great for sightseeing. Of course coming home today the sun was out :mad:
I feel so much better than I did after my first marathon and my legs don't ache half as much. Not sure I'll be able to cycle to work in the morning, but I'll see how I feel then.
What next? Nowt/nada/nothing long distance. Club races between now and Spring although I might try to do a 20 mile run once a month during the winter, just to keep my legs in check
Not sure if I'll do it next year but will do another marathon. Also plan to visit the Eden Project next summer - hopefully with better weather :rotfl:

Mon 12/10 - 4.11m (lakeside) 47:09 (11.29/m) :jI can't believe this! It was a route I hadn't run before (I was running the route as it was the only way I could get my run in to fit with my sis watching the boys) I didn't enjoy the run for a single minute!! It was a lovely day, clear blue skies and everybody (and their dogs not forgetting the pushchairs oh yes and the geese & ducks) were out around the lakeside. I was having to repeatedly say excuse me as I tried to get past people so I couldn't wait fot the run to be over :rotfl:I wasn't even trying to to the tempo run today as I thought I would leave that til later in the week when I was on my normal routeFollowing :money: to keep us debt free :j0 -
1Hannah, isn't it maddening when you have those kinds of runs?
Never mind. You stuck with it and you know the next one will be better :T:TThe 365 Day 1p Challenge 2025. Member #420 -
:rotfl::rotfl: Well done Hannah; you must have really wanted to get the run over with to go at that pace :T

Thanks Simply. For me it's the sense of achievement especially as I've always hated hills so this one was special in that respect. Hopefully it means Thursday hill sessions will become enjoyable, rather than bearable  Running reminds me that I CAN do it despite my fears :TThe 365 Day 1p Challenge 2025. Member #420
