Yes, exactly...Just a quite night in0 -
Well done Idio. Sounds like a great run today, despite the weather and difficult start. You must have been really surprised when you saw the clock. As you say, if you ran 44-mins, you can take off a good minute for the start, then on a flat course without the 90-degree turns you couls well be up for sub-40.
I haven't posted for quite a while. Lots going on that I don't want to post about here, but at last, some good news - I got a place for London in the ballot! DH deferred from last year due to injury, so we are both running VLM next April. Hurray!
Evab - good luck for next week hun. I did a 7-mile run this morning with DH in the Snowdonia area. Killer hills but the view is easily worth it. Give it all you've got and have a brilliant time!
UK - good luck for Athens - hope it isn't too hot!Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90

:eek:just signed myself and oh for silverstone half!
simply- whats your confession?, intrigued now........... Your marathon training seems much harder than mine, I only had to do 5 miles this weekend and have 2 short runs this week. Would be interested to hear from Rich et al in regards to your theory- sounds right to me. !!!
I'm still tempted by Silverstone but will need to see how it fits in around other races.
I've been following a training schedule that targets a 4.30 marathon time (but I know I'm going to take longer than that) - what time are you aiming for next week?
My confession? I've got Taper Madness - I've just entered another marathon. The North Dorset Village Marathon on 2 May 2010!!!
Well done on your run Idio - that's a great time. Just think what you could do on a flat course with no hold ups:D
Congrats on getting into VLM Chick - I think only you and Mascott have managed to get ballot places!!!!2021 MFW No.18 £9900/£10,000Mortgage at 21.07.20 £178,999 Mortgage today £150,8910 -

Morning all!
It looks like its been a busy week on here, some very interesting reading from what I've skimmed so far.
As for our week away we started on a little technical difficulty - ie we were all ready and packed for our 22:31 flight from Luton and then discovered at 18:30 that 2231 was actually the flight number and the take off time was 19:30. A little jiggery pokery later and we were flying from Gatwick at 20:15! All good fun!:D:D
We were of the initial idea that there would probably be very little running and lots of eating and drinking. Due to the Spanish insistence on selling alcohol so cheaply we certainly managed the latter:p.
Running wise, there are plenty of nice straight flat roads but pavements are a little thin on the ground so it didnt look the best of environments. However, we then discovered that right on our doorstep we had a network of roads that were ideal and completely unused as they were part of our development which hadnt yet been developed (in true Spanish style).
So this was perfect for intervals:

And this was perfect for the tempo/other runs:
http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/spain/-spain/688125522569755934
There was only a small window suitable for training, ie just after sunrise and before it got too hot but this also coincided with the most humid part of the day. It worked out quite nicely though.
I was surprised to see a fatality in the Royal Parks yesterday as conditions were perfect and we actually commented on how sensibly people seemed to be approaching it compared to what is usual for that type of race. But, as Mascott says, there are more and more people with the attitude that it is 'ONLY' a half...an attitude that is being encouraged so we will see more of this unforunately.
Right, off to read back and see what fun we've missed....:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Morning All!
:D
Have read back a little but forgotten lots so apologies
Well done Chick and Mascott = exciting! :j:j
Great race yesterday Idio and fantastic half time Uk
Wonder how Poor got on - it was yesterday right??
Simply - you nutter, well done on your half result!
Evab - I hope you feel better soon and exciting times ahead - bet you feel a  andat the same time
Okay so Spain was hot, alcoholic and foody - I feel fat. Got some early morning runs in but it was very humid at that time - did 2 5.8 milers at around 56 minutes and one interval session where I ran two lots of miles 7:39 and 7:19 :j:j:j
I had full recovery after each but still - WOW! Think it was because there were no turns and didnt have my back pack
Anyway got back at 2:30 am on Sunday morning and got up at 7:30 to run Royal Parks - was doing really well but didnt have time to go to the loo at the start so had tostop between 3 and 4 miles and lost 3 minutes fiddlig with the 50p and the turnstile (and bashed my knee). Was still on 9 minute miles at 6 miles, but just wasnt enjoying myself at all so dropped out when I bumped into Rich
.
Am not enjoying racing at the moment because I dont feel I am fast enough - might have been on for a 1:58 yesterday but its not a pb and I didnt really see the point of doing it
Tried to go for an interval session this morning but was half asleep and missed my turning point so decided to come into work early and go out again tonight
Happy running all!0 -
Oooo I think Poor had a cracking marathon!!!!

Simply - Congrats on the half last week, just what the doctor ordered and seems to have given you the lift to set you up nicely for Sunday. As for the tapering thing, it is not an exact science in any sense and you have to play about with the variables and see how they affect you individually. Obviously, it can take a long time to get it anywhere near right.
However, as a general rule, in the same way that there is far more risk from over drinking than under drinking, there are more risks to over tapering than under tapering. Running is full of counter intuitive stuff but in essence the body loves exercising and when you stop doing so it slowly but surely starts to shut down. The key is to balance the necessary 'resting' without letting the body get lazy. Not easy at all.
Idio - A great time considering the 'preparation' .... a bit more training and you might put in a decent showing at the Chunder Mile!:p
UK - A 6:36/mile half marathon and WAVA of 68.92% is getting pretty tasty. You'll probably be off and away in the distance on Sunday while I'm still trying to burn off some more of the 'holiday excesses'.
Mascott and Chickadee - Congrats on your places, the law of averages tended to suggest we'd get 2 places so looks like we got our fair share.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Hi Becky/Rich - ncie to have you back!!
Looks like you got some good running in while you were away - well done. I would imagine it was nice to have a change of scenery??
Sorry yesterday didn't go so well Becky; you sound very frustrated with racing at the moment. Don't be so hard on yourself - it's not that long since you were poorly.
We've not heard from Poor yet - are you able to share the result??2021 MFW No.18 £9900/£10,000Mortgage at 21.07.20 £178,999 Mortgage today £150,8910 -
Hi Simply
I think its just a bit of the running blues - am going to grind out some training over the next few weeks and then see where I am and target St Albans for a nice result!
Oh and highlight my post and you'll see0 -
Never mind the subtlety, I'm sure Poor would be more than happy for everyone to know she did 4:16:31 and finished 152nd!!
She was also 6th in age group and had a WAVA of 59.94%!
Thats the end of the claims of not being able to run in any temperatures less than 30c though!:pGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
