simply- whats your confession?, intrigued now........... Your marathon training seems much harder than mine, I only had to do 5 miles this weekend and have 2 short runs this week. Would be interested to hear from Rich et al in regards to your theory- sounds right to me.

Hi All,
Just a flying race report on the Cancer Research Cardiff 10k today...
My mate was hungover and thus kept going to the loo - which meant we missed hearing most of the instructions etc at the start - a consequence of which was that we started *a long* way out of position - the first 1.2 miles was just a battle to get past people - often having to run up the bank, or through nettles etc to get by - in short, it was 1.2miles of fartlek. Once I found a better rhythm, though things settled down a bit.
It was cold. And raining. And quite muddy in places...half on tarmac, half on fields, parkland etc. It was so rainy I couldn't really see my garmin, in fact. In an effort to make up my poor start, I decided to try and hold 7min/miles for as long as possible - but around half way, I looked at my watch and seemed to be a way behind where I wanted to be, still...I was starting to feel tired, but pushed on - toward the end of the race, however, I looked down and worked out I was on for a time around 48:00, which I thought, considering the poor start, the poor surface and the weather, wouldn't be too bad.
(I should also add the course wasn't exactly easy - quite a lot of "little" hills, over bridges, down banks etc, but nothing too large - but a lot of 180 bends, too, which tend to sap my legs a bit)
I must have added something up wrong, however, because next thing I knew, I was running the last 100m and had the clock in front of me - which was at around 44:30, so I ran for the line and stopped my garmin - 44:08. Was really quite shocked - not sure where my maths went wrong, but maybe I should get it wrong more often.
So, managed another PB, even with the rain, the cold, the mud, the traffic and the 4 pints I had swishing in my belly from the night before - a result I was pleased with, overall...
Looking at my splits, my mile times were all between 7:00 and 7:10ish, except for the first one, which is 8:20, or something - so could probably shave another minute off on a better day - starting to feel like <40 may be on afterall0 -
4 pints.?
Were you just out for a light bite to eat, and had a drink with your meal.
I did my first 10k with about 9 pints & a few JD's inside me. The was stood at the start line throwing up watching me get ready to go.
