Not a bad turnout for a xmas day event, over 50 hardy individuals including 3 dogs, a turkey and a xmas pudding.:D:D
But not what you would call good running conditions being a mixture of ankle deep snow on top of muddy grass and paths covered in very slippery ice. Those who run it regularly reckoned it was a good 3 minutes slower than normal....so my slowest (erm, I mean 43rd quickest) parkrun of 2009 is actually quite a good achievement.:p
Becky took great pride in beating the turkey but to be fair his legs and wings seemed to be hampering him somewhat.
It will be interesting to see how the results come out since the laptop refused to enter the spirit of things resulting in old fashioned paper and pen coming to the rescue.
Medicinal brandy was handed out to the survivors at the end.
So who else has been out for a run so far...................?Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Hmm .... not me I'm afraid
I packed my running gear fully intending to run before breakfast but after present opening my 4 year old grandson decided that Granny was to be his playmate of choice. So I've spent the morning playing pirates and building Lego instead.

Nice to see the turnout at Bushy was 414, pretty much a full normal turnout...this xmas day racing lark just might catch on.:D:D

Sat26/12 parkrun Bedfont Lakes 5K 19:54 (6:26/mile) (2nd) (http://www.parkrun.org.uk/bedfont/Results.aspx)
It was a very soggy Bedfont Lakes course this morning but its a lovely country park which will be great during the Summer.
Conditions were such that most people were running about 1:15-1:30 slower than PB but nonetheless it was a good way to reduce the after effects of yesterday's imbibing.
After yesterday's 3rd place in the snow, Becky returned to winning ways with 1st Place in a time of 24:56, just 40 secs slower than PB, which was pretty impressive with today's underfoot muddiness.:D From the race report:
".....In her 1st appearance, Rebecca HALL (SW25-29) of Unattached won in a time of 24:56 for the 1st time. Rebecca HALL beat Lucy KING (SW30-34) representing Walton AC by 15 seconds recording 25:11 in the process. Leila ROSE, (VW35-39) of Purple Patch Runners placed third in a time of 26:05. Hi runners. Hope everyone's had a merry christmas.
Can anyone advise me on getting back into running after an injury? I tore a hamstring in November, probably thanks to increasing the distance I was running too quickly. I haven't run since then and am desperate to start again - but scared of injuring myself again.
I can still feel the twinge in the hamstring, it's not painful exactly but I can feel something is still wrong. Is it OK to start jogging or do I have to wait until it's completely gone?
And how fast can I build up my mileage again?
Thanks for any advice!Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Hi Seaxwyn,
As always, whether coming back from injury or trying to avoid injuries in the first place, it is essentially a case of listening to the body.
It constantly gives you clues about what it wants to do, be it pushing on and increasing the workload or easing off and letting the recuperative effects take place.
You've experienced the effect of building mileage too quickly, and suffering the consequences, so will now have that in your experience bank which will make you a little more cautious going forwards.
At the end of the day its a case of suck it and see - only you can feel how your body is reacting and whether it feels up to the task you're asking.......Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
