    Hi Dreamingaloud and welcome!
I'm a kind of newbie on this thread as well, but don't worry, the experts will be along soon to help you.
Enjoy your running. And good luck for marathon training!

Well, first run since my latest illness this morning for me. A 4 mile tempo run. Felt OK, but the lungs felt a bit achey. Even though there's not much phlegm left (too much info?).

Anyway, I hope I manage to stay illness free and finally start ramping up the training again.

I'll ask yet again - Anyone doing a parkrun in Wimbledon this week? If not I'll go to one closer to home (Roundshaw Downs). Surely this is the week I'll finally make it!

The likely parkrun venues for the next 3 weeks are:

    5th Black Park, Slough
    12th Wimbledon
    19th South Manchester

So, might see you next week?

Yes, might well see you on the 12th, rich.

Dreamingaloud, welcome. The first tip is to keep building your distance. Lots of slow runs, increasing the distance bit by bit. Forget about speed training for now, you will find your speed increasing naturally at the start. It's only when your performance starts to "plateau" that you need to start thinking about speed work.

First challenge, get yourself up to 4 miles. This is considered a good distance to build from. You should aim to cover 4 miles (just under 7K) every time you head out. That doesn't mean you have to run all the way, run as far as you can and then walk the rest at a brisk pace. Don't feel tempted to start running again during the session, just walk to the end.

You've got a good bit of time to get ready for it, good luck! We can do you a training plan at a later date, stick around.

I'm really looking forward to my run tonight. I wonder how tired my legs will be? But I now know I can still do it, even if I feel bit tired, so that's good. Just the 4.24 miles again, will have to route a 5 mile run soon or should I go for 4.5?

  • Beer tins - I'll see you Saturday at Roundshaw if you're gonna be there? I'll be the one in running gear! ha ha! seriously, I'll let you know what I'm wearing if you're coming. I've normally got one of those buff headband things on.

Yes, I'll see you then. Was lloking for a pic on the parkrun site so you'd recognise me, but they don't seem to go back to early July (yes, it's been that long!). I'll almost certainly be wearing black shorts and a long sleeved white running top!

Not sure if that helps :)

Idio - Well you do get a nice red t-shirt after completing 50 parkruns and a black weatherproof jacket after 100 from the sponsors, Nike. The 10 parkrun t-shirt is only for juniors!

Saturday's run will my 40th, which has come round quickly considering the first was only last November, so I suppose I'm sitting on 80% of a t-shirt at the moment.:p

I think it's my week for being stopped. I was on mile 2 this morning and a lorry driver stopped me to ask directions to the Marina - not quite what I was expecting at 06.00hrs. I think I should be able to finish work earlier tomorrow so I'll be able to run late afternoon - it means I'll get an extra hour in bed tomorrow morning :j

bj - go for it!! Everyone thought I was mad when I said I was going to run a marathon this year; it's such an amazing feeling when you achieve your goal so don't let others put you off :D:D

Welcome to the thread Dreamingaloud - as beer tins says 'stick around'. You'll find there are plenty of people on here to offer advice and support; we're a mix of abilities and all learn from each others experiences.

Bad luck red - hope you start feeling better soon.

Went for my run, and it started raining ... and I carried on! :D:D:D
So am I know a fully fledged member of the running club??? ;)

Legs felt bit tired, but I don't know if it was the rain or what, but had my best and quickest run to date! And felt good about it too.
