Bah, the sparky was still round my place on Sat, so no parkrun for me. Next Sat is definitely in the calendar though. Anyone going to the Wimbledon one? If not, I might give Roundshaw Downs a go. It's a bit easier for me to get to.
As for that guy who's done 20 marathons a year, I'd have thought a half dozen would be plenty. Is there any fitness benefit in running this many marathons?!
In a word NO! Lots of injury risk though...
We're in Leeds again this weekend - but will be in London a lot more of the next few months, so may be able to do one in a few weeks0 -

Nope in a word. But its been a quiet year...he did 28 last year!
To think that I've done 39 parkruns this year, so 3 Saturdays out of every 4.........and he's nearly running a marathon every time I've done a 5K.....the body doesnt respond well to that much wear and tear unless its very sub optimal.
To be fair though, he ran his best marathon of 2:51:55 in Stockholm in 1991, 18 years ago...........and he's still managed to run 4 sub 3:00 (and 13 sub 3:05 ) marathons this year at age 47. So who knows...some people may be just very robust!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

I'm willing to bet he could improve his marathon time by entering just a handful of races and adopting a new training plan. Still, if it makes him happy!Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0

I tend to agree!
And yet he's still ranked 126 in the UK in age group, so could probably climb a good bit higher.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

If you decide it will be a regular routine then it WILL, no question about it....100% GUARANTEED!:D:D
What you've probably found in previous years is that you've lost the answer to the question 'Why?' or it has become fuzzy and the effort doesnt seem worth it.
But thats usually due to the initial reason being either a poor one, such as to lose weight or to get fit which by definition lose importance as you lose weight or get fitter, or because there were no specific targets for 3, 6, 12 months and further into the future.
A big positive is that you've now got the parkruns to keep you interested and to measure your fitness by over time. You'll probably find yourself getting competitive with those that are just in front of you each week......;)too true... Yes, I've not previously had and still don't, have any real goals for my running really. It's bit of free exercise as far as I'm concerned. I hope bf will start coming to the park run, but he's not too keen on getting up that early at the weekend. He's suffered will all sorts of problems recently as well and atm, mostly runs on the treadmill at gym.
What is a good reason to run? I do enjoy it, but it's unlikely to ever be a huge part of my life. Fell running interests me, but I assume you have to be even fitter to do that, and then you need to invest in new trainers with spikes and all that...DEBT FREE OCTOBER 2012!Proud to have dealt with my debts!0 -
Thats Steve Edwards though :P
10 of his marathons over the last 3 years were done in 10 days around Windermere. He's done the 10 in 10 all 3 times. I have no idea what his current total is but he is after 500 sub 3:30 marathons.

I think you'll have to find a balance point at which you are enjoying it enough to go out as much as you want to but not in full on training for a marathon or you may find you go off it again - perhaps set yourself a time goal for the parkrun in 6 months time and see how you go??0 -
Newcastle Marathon my first DNF
Yesterday was Newcastle town moor marathon and tbh i wasn't sure if it was even possible to get to at one point being i live in west cumbria. Thankfully the A66 was open again and there were no dodgy bridges closed on it. Did take me 3 hours to get home from Carlisle saturday night though as i encountered a recently closed bridge on the road from carlisle to west cumbria. A wee bit of a detour was involved as well as going down supposedly closed roads which were open from the other end.
Handily there was very little traffic around and i had a nice pleasant drive over the north pennines although it was a tad windy on the top when i stopped for a pee. Parked up in the car park then went to the pub (meeting point honest) for a toilet stop.
Headed down to the start too late for the fetch photo and within a short time we were off. A bit of a wiggly route around the town moor to get the distance in without more than 5 laps. Did mean quite a lot of head and cross wind sections and a evil hill to the second drinks station.
Noticed in the latter stages of lap 1 that my relativly common knee problem was hurting a bit already. Normally its just an occasional twinge which is fine to carry on with but alas it was hurting more often on lap 2. Lap 3 saw a definite increase on wind strength making it hard work and also making the knee hurt more. Suspect the cross winds make it worse too.
Decided coming down the last mile along the main road that i would stop after 3 laps as 2 more laps could make it a longer injury layoff. Had to stop at lap 3 as doing the 4th would of meant the chances of stopping at the end of the 4th would of been 0% as i just wouldn't stop.
Lap times were 50, 56 and 64 mins approx and probably would of been around 70 mins for the last 2 laps or worse.
Went and supportered from fetchpoint for a hour or so before heading to the pub to change, warm up, get some drink and to claim a table for the fetch posse when they got there. Decent drive home via Carlisle and Penrith although the bridge was open again when i went past.
Thoughts on the course, well erm do it in the summer or at least a non windy day and it would probably have a good PB potential.Debt free Nerd number 1122 LBM Jan 2009 Debt @ LBM £40,086.88 (14/01/09)

The only goal that came into my mind after doing the park run and looking at the results was that I'd want to be able to do the 5k in 25mins. So that will be my one goal for the time being.DEBT FREE OCTOBER 2012!Proud to have dealt with my debts!0

Awww KMS hope the knee is okay today - you can treat the race as a quality training run instead
The weather/wind did sound pretty awful - I dont mind a cross wind in shorter or fuller races as I can hide behind people, but with a 100 limit I suspect it was pretty spread out on the course. I think Rich is keen on having a go at the race next year so thanks for comment on the pb potential0
