Sat21/11 Brampton To Carlisle '10 Miles' 57:15 (????) (Approx 6:14/mile) (http://www.race-results.co.uk/results/2009/brampton09.pdf)
An eventful outing to rather soggy Cumbria today.
On arrival there were rumours circulating that the police had tried to cancel the race last night and it was only saved by taking out a loop around half way which was under waist high water - we went past that section on the bus as we went to the start and there was no way a race was going through there! (http://www.borderharriers.co.uk/athletics/urgent--brampton-to-carlisle-road-race.html)
To give an idea of conditions, on the other side of the road to the finish area a cricket field was completely submerged to the point that only the clubhouse top floor was visible.
But it was decided that the oldest 10 miler on the calendar couldnt be cancelled for such trivial reasons so off we went. It was suggested that we would be running about 9.2 miles so there was a little re-focussing to do.
I decided to have a crack at lowering my 10K time en route and then see how I could hang on. So despite the wind and rain the first 5 miles passed in 30:47 (compared to 31:12 at Cabbage Patch) and the 10K clocked at 38:11 (compared to a previous best of 38:48). I am very pleased with that because of the way the last 3 miles or so still felt strong, off a fast early pace, taking something like 19:08.:D
Because Becky would have had to wait at the finish for around 3 hours she fitted in a nice 11 miler in around 1:51 and really enjoyed the cumbrian air!
Tirlittan - Congratulations on your first parkrun. :T They become very addictive so pencil 9am every Saturday morning into your diary.:D
Chickadee - Sounds like another enjoyable outing, you're slowly but surely turning into a fell runner!;)
Linda - yep, that was the venue for the Greenway 10K that we ran earlier in the year. http://www.ukresults.net/2009/greenway.htmlGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Tirlittan - hooray, you've been drawn in by park run, that's it, they've got you now! It is so addictive!
Ukevas - it's not my beach by any means, just the area I've visited so far. If you recommend another region to explore - hubby and I will be searching for accommodation! I'm not one of those who goes back to the same place every time for the sake of it! But, I am very hooked on mainland Greece now.
Steve - wow, well done, for the weather, and the 10K time - awesome! And an amazing race achievement, weather and all.
Hubby bought a proper pair of running shoes today, and is so excited. And I spotted a pair the same as mine, old model, 1/2 price, so I now have a pair I can get wet/muddy and a dry pair. Hooray!0 -
Rich - i drove the route on the way to Newcastle this moring, well not the loop section. I'm sure that bit was rather wet last time i did it myself. THe last few miles feel easy as its downhill :P
Took me 2.5 hours to get home from carlisle as they have shut a load of bridges so i had to go back the way i cameWill make heading to Newcastle a bit of a !!!!!! tomorrow

KMS - I know what you mean about the bridges. Our coach driver had just come from Cockermouth and told us that 8 bridges had collapsed and they had given up on saving another 10. These are long standing stone structures.!!
Anyway, hope you get across to Town Moor reasonably okay tomorrow and that you get a good set of conditions, at the moment its looking pretty good I have to say.
Make sure you get back on to let us know how its gone...........:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Ukevas, that's interesting - I shall be looking at the map! Glyfada was lovely, but expensive and a bit 'designer' for us.0
