Hahahaha Rich thats the article I was using for my leaning forward thing practice
Good - the 'Sitting In A Bucket' explanation is relevant for your running form too.....
The only slight problem is that it can sound very complicated when it really isnt!!!!
And this is part of that rubbish out there:
"Lean running" is a newer running form used by some runners and joggers. ChiRunning, the POSE Method, and other forms have just started gaining popularity in the past few years.
Learning this new style of running form can enhance your running experience by lessening your chances of injury. The major idea behind lean running is that you should lean from the ankles to let gravity pull you forward. This makes running easier and less harmful to your body. The more you lean, the faster you go."
New? What are they on? Running properly is not a new invention !!!!!!.
And you can just imagine seeing a trail of runners flat on their faces along the embankment if you listened to that last line. What a load of ballcocks.:pGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Yep. Rubbish. If you are a sprinter, you need to lean forwards a lot to help your balance. The leaning doesn't make you go faster. The faster you go the more you have to lean - not the other way round. It's a function of balance, nothing more.
Same thing goes for arm movement. Sprinters need to pump their arms to help counter-balance their long, fast strides. But pumping your arms doesn't in itself make you go faster and endurance runners don't need more than a very gentle arm movement at best.Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -
These are interesting stats considering the Great North Run used to be the most fiercely contested 1/2 marathon in the world. Comparing this year's GNR with the Ageo City 1/2 Marathon in Japan:
10th GNR 1:03:49, Ageo 1:04:41
25th GNR 1:07:57, Ageo 1:05:23
50th GNR 1:13:33, Ageo 1:05:54
100th GNR 1:19:09, Ageo 1:06:52
200th GNR 1:23:50, Ageo 1:08:18
And this was despite Ageo having freak weather conditions this year causing very high temperatures. That 200th position for the last 2 years has been 1:06:37 and 1:06:43, times that only 22 runners bettered in the GNR. So 22nd in the GNR = 200th in Ageo!!!
This is a perfect illustration of what happens when you spend the big bucks to get half a dozen elite athletes lined up and then prioritise the rest of the places on charity fundraising.
And watch any championship marathon now and there will always be several Japanese runners in the leading pack because they have races which develop strength in depth.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

You have WAY too much spare time Rich!
...Linda xxIt's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0 -

...Linda xx:p Hardly, these stats are available....they tend to stand out like a sore thumb on occassions!
And, UK, no need to break it any more than it is already.....I take it that you're a little cautious about accepting what docs say at face value, until proven beyond reasonable doubt that is?;)Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Well that was supposed to be a 10 miler but I was too stiff and tired to make much of it and I fell over on the way back :eek::eek:
(Luckily there were a number of bags of leaves waiting to be collected that cushioned my fall and just made it seriously amusing for the many passing motorists :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:)0 -
Just as I read that the local news announced that they are making a one off collection of bags of leaves and other garden waste next Tuesday (this makes the news because binmen have been on strike for 8-9 weeks round here).
Whatever are runners going to find to cushion their falls after next Tuesday?:p:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
