  • Sorry to hear that Becky; it seems the bugs are unavoidable at the moment. :(

I think I'm going to take myself out of the 'sick' group though as I feel loads better today - my chest no longer hurts so if I don't keep myself awake coughing again tonight I'm back out running tomorrow. :j

I hope everyone else is fit and well. :D

I went to running club last night, we did a hill repeats session which I actually really enjoyed :D

    tomorrow it's a 10 miler.

I really like the mix of short runs, long runs, fartlek and hill sessions that they do.

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

Very happy with tonight's run, the first 5K took 20:57 (which is pretty good straight from cold) and the uphill return 5K was a sprightly 20:44!

It shows that the 1/2 marathon was not too damaging but nonetheless I have learnt my lesson from after the Cabbage Patch 10 that 3 speed sessions in the week after a 10+ mile race is too much.

So this week it will be just tonight's tempo run and then I'll have a good crack at the parkrun on Saturday - if it doesnt go too well I can always blame it on Slough being a new course!:p

Oh, and just got my number for the Thirsk 10 in 2 weeks - 19! I never get numbers as low as that because I never enter much before the deadline, but there is a handwritten note on it saying 'Dont worry, we do have over 850 entries'!:D

  • Hi Guys, I'm just home from Athens, so can't chat for long (washing to put on, and work in the morning - groan) I did it, I finished my 10k, didn't feel too good at all, considered not running, but thought - ah, give it a go, it's all steadily uphill for the first 5k, then down hill back, it was raining, which folk were saying added to their time, but I think it helped me stay cool! It took me 1:09:38 though, with 1 toilet stop! My hubby did 55:24 (and he videoed the route whilst running!), friend did 44:33 - he reckons he was 4th in the UK entrants. not sure if we can find out how many UK runners there were.

The Athens site has only put up the gun times, still waiting for the chip times and the photos. They're not so quick or organised it seems!

The medal is GORGEOUS! i loved Athens, and the hotel treated us like their 'marathon celebrities' which was very embarrassing!

My goal is not Portsoy 10K, next May in under an hour. i'll run more races between now and then, but that's the one I failed totally at this year, and cried my eyes out - so I want to bury it!

thanks for all your help guys, that's what made me not give up.

It sounds like you really enjoyed it, Bj....I trust it was rather scenic.:D

Did they actually state that chip times would be available? Its often the case that chips are just used to record finishing data as gun times are the only 'official' results.

The Athens site is showing your first 5K as 36:24 and your last 5K as 35:02 so if it felt like an even paced run then you could probably reckon on 1:20 lost at the start to be deducted from your official time of 1:11:26. That looks pretty close to the time you've quoted, so is 1:09:38 from your Garmin?

The 4th Brit was a guy called David Stevens in 44:20 although the 4th British male was Matthew Dacey in 44:57 since the first Brit overall was actually a lady!

  • Hey Steve - thanks for that info! Yes, from my Garmin, and I was really dumb and didn't stop it when i went to the loo (had to!) derr. Yes, I loved it, running the finish into the old olympic stadium was truly grand!

Oh, I'll go back on my info pack, surely they'll quote the chip time! It cost an absolute fortune, how dare they not!

Where are you finding the UK runners details? and the time splits??? Our friend was Dr Kevin Robinson - he's desperate to know his UK placing! Hilarious,

We were all on the train after, clutching our medals - singing 'it's all about the medal'.

My hubby thinks 10ks are now the way to see Europe! Lord knows how you find out where runs are on, we only knew about this one via friends out there. Hope Ukevas did ok with the marathon, it was tough for those guys in the rain, then teh sun was blazing for their finish. hmm.
  • Kevin Robinson was 5th British Male and 6th Brit overall in a time of 45:30. (162nd actual race position)

He was born in 1968 and represented 'Jog Scotland'
