Afternoon! :hello:
Been sorting out the kids' halloween costumes as it is now October... DS1 has had a new one bought from the Birthdays closing down sale over the summer, cost about £2.50 for a black cloak which will be accessorised with a £1.50 ghoul mask from Tesco. DS2 will be inheriting the wizard costume from his big brother, and DD still fits into the Pumpkin costume which I bought second hand from ebay for 99p last year! Which is all good...
Cracking on with the Christmas stuff too, have finished knitting DS2's Shaun the Sheep and am busy sewing it up. Have also finished DS1's cross stitch Christmas card, and am starting on my mum's one. I still can't believe that the card kits only cost 35p each from www.docrafts.co.uk they still have some kits at that price but I don't think they have the Christmas ones any more. Had a delivery yesterday from www.yellowmoon.org.uk with lots of Christmas craft stuff for the kids to do. Liked a lot of their card kits in their catalogue, but when I looked online they had last year's stock, which is almost the same, reduced in the sale section so I bought that instead and saved a fortune!
Dinner is minced beef and onions (which has been in the SC since 7am before I went to work) in giant Yorkshires with mashed potato and mashed swede, followed by plum crumble.
Hope you all have a good day x0 -
Afternoon gang, hope everyone is feeling better than I do! Slept very badly and am aching all over.
Tea last night was good.
Tea tonight will be rest of the savoury mince with two red peppers, a green pepper a courgette and some sweetcorn added to it. Will be using them as a filling to pancakes have made the batter so everything is sorted for tea.
Had yogurt for breakfast. Not bothering with lunch.
Making loaf in my BM was going to get rid with having the Kenwood but am glad I didn't now.
Belated birthday wishes to master bitsy beans hope he had a lovely day.
Bargainbird am thinking and praying for you and your family.

Hi everyone, late posting for me because I've been 'helping' DH cut down a door (a lovely old ledge-and-brace one we found in a barn!) to fit the room he's been working on. It's going to look lovely when it's all done - needs sanding down, staining and waxing, then it'll be worth taking a photo of it. I've already taken the 'before' photo.
Pippa- so sorry you have such a sad day to think of. You must miss your sister so much. (((Hugs))) to you.
Bargainbird - thinking about you and your family, and sending lots of (((hugs))).
Have only quickly skimmed the thread today, so not really caught up with things.
Lunch today was tomato soup and soft rolls, all home made and, although I say it myself, absolutely delicious! Dinner tonight is Toulouse sausages, with leftover fried potatoes and some home made sort of baked beans.
Well, better get on with something.

Bright and breezy here, the weather I mean not me!:rotfl:
Day off today so as usual spent it shopping, cooking, cleaning, washing etc etc (and we call it a day off:rolleyes:)
Went to Mr T this morning and got some amazing bargains, I had dropped my (reading) glasses into the Optician part as I had a screw loose (:p I know, I know:D) and was wandering round filling time whilst they did the repairs, saw some lads stacking a shelf labelled Managers specials.
They had some really good long shelf life deals, I got Marmalade for 20p per jar (x 5), lasagna sheets 10p per box (x 3), huge Bold soap powder £4.00 (x 2), large peanut butter 30p per jar( OH loves it) Dishwasher tablet £2.00. Asked the assistants how come things were so cheap and they said that the stock had come from another store that was being refurbed and they were just selling it off at less than half price. Def my lucky day!
Also called at Asda and picked up a couple of YS items, so all in all a good mornings shop!:D
Washing out on the line blowing nicely, sc on with chicken curry bubbling away, so can relax on here for a little while now with a coffee.
((((Hugs)))) Bargainbird.
Was reading about the Bristol meet, do you ever have ones for us northern OSers????
Halight and SunnyGirl hope you are both OK and just too busy to post!

Good afternoon! Haven't posted for a few days so thought I'd better drop by to say hello!
I forgot to watch Nigel Slater last night, but the sausage /pasta sounds tasty, thanks for posting the details thriftlady
I've been getting the ingredients together for the Jamaica-style ginger cake in the River Cottage Everyday book (special request from DD1). I have everything now apart from the black treacle and medium eggs - I usually get large ones. Any advice as to whether it would all go wrong if I used large ones instead of medium? If so, I'll have to get some medium ones tomorrow. Then I'm sure i can use them up in another of HFW's recipes
I've had a few good days energy-wise, but was very stiff and achy this morning - perhaps I overdid things, but it was so nice to "get some stuff done". I've had some fizzy co-codamol and feel much better now (I'd already taken ibuprofen for a painful jaw - I think the joint is a bit inflamed as I sometimes clench my jaws in my sleep.)
i took a pair of DS's jeans for repair today - the zip needs replacing. I have a sewing machine, but have never done that sort of repair before and was afraid I'd mess them up, and they're his favourite pair. The repair will be either £10 or £12. The jeans cost £4.50 at Trago Mills
Dinner tonight is chicken tikka masala from the freezer, made from Gill Holcombe's recipe. It wasn't thrilling, but was ok. Tomorrow it's my favourite JO beef stew - we got some stewing steak from Lidl yesterday and it was sooo cheap - feel disloyal to our (pricey) butcher's though! Worth giving the Lidl meat a try at any rate.
While I think of it, the Co-Op are doing Kelly's Clotted Cream ice-cream at half price atm! Oh, and a big box of Mr S Non-bio powder was half-price too.
((((HUGS)))) to Clare and family, Pippa S., and our lovely Pink-Winged xxx
Get-well wishes to everyone who's ill.0 -

medium eggs - I usually get large ones. Any advice as to whether it would all go wrong if I used large ones instead of medium? .
I dont know about any one else, but I never look at the size of eggs
, i just go ahead and use whatever I have in, I am sure your cake would be delish what ever size your eggs are, go for it

Oh floss, that's so kind - but i think I may as well buy some, as i'm sure I'll make the cake again and there are quite a few other yummy-sounding recipes I'd like to try which also use it. I hadn't been up to baking for so long that it's wonderful to be able to do some! You are an :A and i so enjoy reading your posts.
redruby - I opened a bottle of rum to make Nigella's Banana Bread last week, so the ginger cake is an opportunity to use a bit more
I expect you're right about the eggs, I'm probably worrying too much  0 -
Afternoon all
I had a hectic day at work. We had an open day for new young people to join the course we run at the charity I work for. So I spent the day talking to them, interviewing, selecting, and sending out letters. Plus had to finish evaluating files from my last team and do a million other things!
Still got this damn headache!! Nothing is helping, but it's not too bad at this minute. Earlier today I was feeling really nausous (sp?) and light headed
I'm going to make veggie fajitas for tea, and freeze the left over sauce. I've washed dishes and tidied kitchen but not done anything else OS today.
I'm off work now til Tuesday
going to Ikea tomorrow, food festival Saturday and meeting up with old colleagues in the evening, no pland sunday yet and my new sofa is finally coming on Monday
Have a good evening all
