I'm drawn into the debate with perma pessimists, many of whom consider themselves the sole arbitters of the one and only 'truth'. I want to help some of them take charge of thier brain processes, but that sounds a bit grandious!

What interests me is thier psychological framework and thier struggle to overcome, indeed to even recognise thier deep seated brain imprints that lead them to have such a negative view of the world.

Sincerely, I want to be able to help just one or two of them to conquer these brain phantoms. Why I wan't to do this, I'm not clear on, but I think it stems from my own personal battle with negative impulses.

I came on here originally to learn, but I became addicted. You think, 'One more post won't hurt....' then, before you know it, you've made 2000.

Unlike some others I acted on what I learned, sold, rented and recently did a great cash deal on a property with land. I have to say though that my new home was not entirely on the open market and other circumstances around the sale were somewhat abnormal.

But, hey, if it hadn't been for this Forum I definitely wouldn't have this place at all. As Hughie Green used to say: 'And I mean that most sincerely folks!' (Ah, that really does date me!)

Oh, yes, the future. Personally I'm a subscriber to the W shaped recession theory. Doom & gloom are my watchwords.

    Have a nice day.;)

Ahem! There is quite a difference between perma pessimism and realism. I count myself in the realist camp, along with, I guess, a fair majority of the posters on this board.

Just because we can see through the waffle that others like to use to cover their intentions, does not make us pessimists. On the contrary. It means we do not get taken for a ride. All too many people over recent years have gone around with their head in the clouds. Now people are being forced to wake up. I don't call that pessimism. I call that facing up to the facts.

I have been told in the past that I have a negative attitude - but always by people who were trying to get me to do something that would suit them, but which went against my principles. I think you will find there are a lot of people on here who that could apply to.
SMILE....they will wonder what you are up to...........;)

I make loads of posts and noone are designed to be useful to anyone other than myself. Most of them aren't even useful to me. I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything, I just like some people here and enjoy the educational and informtive posts. My list of really useful contributers includes: Generali, Viva, jayscottgreenspan, I. Monkfish, FC123, alanM and thrifty babe (who often describe the impact on their businesses, the ups and downs) and.....other people who I can't remember..thrugelmir...others ...

There are epople I wish would expand more, (I've asked Purch a couple of times to expand on a point) because I think I could learn from them. There are other people too....

(I shouldn't have made a list, there are/were loads of people I've missed, I know it, so the list is not exhaustive and the other people who are my ''board chums'' are useful too, infct everyone who makes me think about something differently is useful I think, even if they don't change my standpoint)

I post due to an addiction, which I think stems from being self-employed - this is my virtual water-cooler and where I get to have conversations during the day with people who are over 9 years old (my kids).

I like the fact that there are many intelligent inspirational posters, with the insight one gets into the lives and work of people from a range of backgrounds I'd never normally come across in real life, like Max selling cars or fc making frocks.

My OH finds house prices deeply dull and here I can find some other weirdos who find them as relentlessly interesting as I do. Plus it's an economic education too - I think the economic crash lat year made me feel it was my duty, as the one in charge of the household finances, to get a grip on how the economic situation was likely to pan out, and what impact that would have on me and my family, and how to plan sensibly for that.

Vital stuff - and intellectually stretching. I could do my job standing on my head, so it's nice to have a bit of challenge.

I'm here to learn all sorts of useful stuff. Like where the great beaches of Kent are.

I only post occasionally as I often change my mind halfway through writing up my opinion. I tend to avoid the bear vs bull arguments but like to see the info (and occasionally a good insult) from both sides. Fave contributor for me would be Generali as his posts are well reasoned and sourced and economics stuff interests me. Though he occasionally makes me homesick.

Overall I'd say I've learnt quite a bit about UK stuff, found a few different media from the links and occupied myself during the boring parts of the workday.

I like to think I'm open-minded and willing to change my opinions, although I'm probably not as much as I think.

I wish I could stand on my head still. Wht I really wish I could do, and never have been able to, is walk on my hands, and do it really well. It would be a useful skill to combine with the wearing of vertiginous heels.:o
