been married 22 years - got married on a shoestring when hubby was a PhD student.

We had 3 nights in York - and then 12 months later we moved here!

Little sis has just got remarried - they had a week on the Isle of Man for some sort of motorbike event!

Personally even if we'd had the dosh - we'd have stayed in Britain!

The people who had the long holiday after my wedding - were my parents - and boy did they need it!

We never had a honeymoon. We did have a "minimoon" -1 night away in a hotel.... and it wasn't a travelodge:eek::rotfl:It was nice because we went back to the city where we used to meet up at weekends (when we used to stay in a travelodge:o):D

I don't know why there's such a big expectation about people having a big expensive honeymoon:confused:

Does it really make a difference to a marriage???

we orginially were not going to have one as OH only has 1 week off, where I can get two, but we have ended with a week's break on the Isle of Skye and blew the money on a 5* one bed bothy, but it looks so fab, has it's own sauna and gym (not that will be used?!)
  • I have never heard the term 'minimoon' before. Thanks for that smartie12.It sounds far better to say we are having a minimoon than saying we are not having a honeymoon but just a weekend break instead.

  • We got married 3 weeks ago and haven't had a honeymoon. We are hoping to have a couple of nights away next month but the only time we can go is during half term as we don't want to take the kids with us and they would have to go and stop with grandparents. We just want to find a nice hotel with spa/leisure facilities so we can pamper ourselves, somewhere not too far away as the car wouldn't manage, but I'm having problems finding a luxury break for budget prices . Also it's proving hard to find availability for the half term week.

We have booked a big holiday already for next year with the kids, so we've got that to look forward to but this minimoon (love that word) is just for us.

we are hiring a cottage for the week after the wedding, in the lake district :)
it looks lovely and cosy (and has a hot tub.....im very excited about this lol)

then my cousin is getting married later in the year so we are going over to canada for the wedding, and will stay there a bit longer and have a travel around so that will become our proper honeymoon :)

i think you should do whatever you want and can afford for your honeymoon, just because you get told everyone goes on these fancy honeymoons doesnt mean you have to

Not having one - can't afford it, plus my passport's just expired and I'm damned if I'm paying the stupid cost to get a new one now, only to have to pay out again in March to get another one done in my married name (yes I'm that much of a cheap !!!!). My folks have booked us into a nice hotel for 3 nights over the wedding period and we'll possibly save for a holiday after that - but neither of us are the sort to want to spend 2 weeks baking on a beach somewhere anyhow (it's my personal idea of hell in a bikini).

Hey, we are doing the same and having the honeymoon on our first anniversary.. we are doing a camper van tour of canda and there is no way we can afford it straight after the wedding. I think its kinda normal now with weddings being so expensive and people having less money. Leaving it for a few years means that you can save up for something really special!
Now a married lady and loving it! Now..to clear that pesky mortgage!

we're not having a honeymoon - we're going to stay in a hotel on our wedding night instead.
