At the risk of sounding dimmer than dim - what are IS hats? Are they innocent smoothies? Is it that time of year again? When's the deadline this year? (These, and other questions, will be appearing regularly on this week's edition of knit your square part 3...)

    Yes, that's right chocclare.
Can't remember the date offhand - but it is approaching. If you google the big knit it should take you there.

    Hi peeps, here's me,

I hope you are all having a good week, especially the children who are being bullied. Shaz - I'm glad your lad is able to stick with his choice, virtual hugs for the bullied and their parents, its such a difficult thing to go through and to support people through.

How lovely to see all the newbies who have only just arrived simply because our last chapter was scary big, I suppose we didn't realise, or even think about how "big" we were - its amazing how comfortable we get with each other, its just like visiting good friends and family. I know from experience how welcome we try to make people feel so I hope, if you're new and a bit shy you'll stick with us and give us a go!
    WELCOME!:j

I've had a really up and down week - silly, so much happening - nothing drastic, just a bit unsettling - might write it down and tell you tomorrow - sometimes just the writing sorts it out for me.

Anyway, guess what!! - I've finished my little shawl/scarf - love it! It's bright and cheery but autumny as well. I'll take another 'photo and if I ever find the "safe place" my cable & K2tog's cheque book are, I'll post it so you can all see.

going now - glass needs refilling for nightcap.

Oooh, thanks for the links Pam. Will have a look at those but probably tomorrow now.
Have found the cheque book - DH had used it and moved it . However still on the lookout for my single 4mm missing needle - I very much doubt he has anything to do with that disappearance :rotfl:.

    Good morning everyone.

Maytaurus - good to hear from you. You are sorely missed when you don't post! Did you get my pm? Love the pattern for the lady's retro crochet sweater, by the way! Will really have to give that a go one day.

Pam - hope your week settles down. Can't wait to see photos of your shawl/scarf! Thanks for all the links, too.

Yesterday, I suddenly remembered that it's my BIL's birthday on Sunday. I always try and make him something daft as a present (for Christmas last year, I knitted him a big pair of breasts with tassels!). I haven't got much time this year, so I found a toy teddy (in the box labelled Teddies and Dolls that I unearthed during a sort out yesterday) and so far have crocheted a blue and white jumper and some white trousers. I'll add a red scarf and a 'man bag' (carried by many French men but fiercely resisted by my DH!) and present him as a French monsieur. BIL and his wife moved here in January, so French is the perfect theme. Anyway, if it turns out OK, I'll post a photo on Wooligans. If it doesn't - well, BIL will still get it!

I have quite a bit of online work to do at the moment - got to keep the pennies (sorry, cents) rolling in, but finding it hard to keep the momentum going while DH is at home asking me to hold bits of wood for him while he's sawing! Yesterday, I had to hold a piece perilously near the electric saw he was using and the thought of losing my fingers (when all I want to do when I retire is knit, crochet and type) was a tad scary. Still, I and my fingers survived (as he promised me we would) but it made me realise just how important our fingers are, especially on this thread!

Chalky - blog's coming on really well, isn't it? You really seem to have mastered all the elements. I'm still struggling a bit with mine, not helped by trying to do it with constant interruptions!

My knitting and crochet gets disturbed every evening now by Louis the kitten. He seems to sleep all day, finding a place in the sun and moving in his sleep as the sun moves - then really wants to play as soon as he sees the wool come out in the evening! He loves my tape measure so I have to throw it to him at regular intervals to keep him occupied; it's now looking distinctly worn. I also found a really tiny teddy for him, and he plays with that too, but, most of all, he likes to sit right next to me watching every movement I make and stretching his paw out to grab the unravelling ball of wool! DH thinks it's hysterical - I don't! I'm going to crochet him some mice and tie them on to door handles and so on, just to get a break from it. He's gorgeous really and I find him quite irresistible, especially as I swore I wouldn't have any more pets - he chose us, and I couldn't imagine life without him.

Anyway, enough waffle - we'll end up at Part 4 in no time if I keep this up!

I'm so pleased that our move from old thread to new seems to have gone without a hitch. I hope everyone has found us now.

Off to put the kettle on - again.

Deadline is Friday 16th Oct, and hats will be instore by 4th Nov.
    Here is the info.
    hth.
Last night I started the first of the neck-tie Christmas presents, using this wool, one will be in 'purple' (the one I am doing now) and one in 'clematis'- it is lovely wool to knit with :). This is the pattern (I am knitting the neck tie, which looks like a small scarf, knitted in lilac on here!).
Also still doing the crib, DS cardi and my own jumper, so plenty to keep me busy.
Kathy the kitten sounds very like my 2 year old DS.....give him his own toys but, oh no, the moving ball of wool (or fluff as DS calls it) is much more exciting!
Hugs to all who need them

morning all, the kitten sounds lovely kathy, unfortunatly we cant have any pets due to allergies to them.
still getting on with the jean greenhowe clown, its all the sewing up that takes ages, so i'm trying to do an hour a day on that. finished a pair of men's socks last night for LH. started a baby jumper for the xmas sale at the community centre.
one day i'll find time to knit my own jumpers that i started lol.
off to google SAD lamps now, as this is the 4th year in a row, that i've felt worse with my depression at this time of year, had my meds increased but still feeling very low.

hugs to all that need one

Hi everyone. Glad you like the sound of Louis - I shall keep you up to date with his antics!

Shaz - I made two of Jean Greenhowe's clowns some years ago - DS2. We still have them kept back for his new daughter, Summer. I really loved knitting them but, oh, the sewing up takes ages. Worth all the effort, though. DS2 was thrilled with his and showed them off to all his friends. They look well-cuddled now! I think Jean Greenhowe is so inventive yet nothing she designs is ever difficult or needs expensive materials. I have several of her booklets and a book of Knitted Toys (I think Pippa has just 'inherited' a copy of that one), and have made loads of things over the years. Good luck with the SAD lamp.
