Hi everyone, I'm back, having had the most fantastic time over the last ten days. I can 't believe how quickly the time disappeared but we managed to fit in such a lot.It was great seeing all the family, especially the grandchildren. DGS and DGD1 have grown another few inches and little Summer, who is now six months old, is simply gorgeous. I was so worried that she wouldn't take to us but, as soon as she saw us, she gave us a beaming smile and happily let me cuddle her to bits, which made me cry! In fact, I've had an emotional few days saying hello to them all, then having to say goodbye again, but at least I'll see them all again in May when they come over, and we'll see if we can make another trip back before then.

We've been well looked after by the dear friends we stayed with, and by my Mum when we visited Weston-super-Mud. We've caught up with most of the extended family, too, and had the greatest time. I'll put some photos on my blog later - I haven't even looked at them yet and I took loads!

I managed to get another eight Chalky squares done while we were away. not as many as I'd hoped because there was so much going on.

Louis the cat was well looked after by the friend we left him with, and was beside himself with excitement when we picked him up, more like a dog than a cat! He was still jumping for joy when we got him home and just wanted to keep going out to explore his new-found freedom, having been kept in a pen for ten days. It was a great pen but not as good as the great outdoors, obviously.

Well, I have a huge pile of washing to sort out (the worst part of being away!) so that will have to be the first thing on the agenda today.

I shall make some more squares and I have had a request from DS2 for a Harry Hill knitted character (I'm sure I have the pattern somewhere that someone on here posted a while back), and DIL2 loved the little sports boots I made for DGD2 and wants some more, so I've decided to make her a World Cup set of boots, a scarf and a headband. She actually wore the headband I made her and didn't take it off, so DIL wants loads more!

I have returned with a huge bag full of wool, some newly purchased and some which my Mum gave me - I kept looking at it all and smiling, which DH couldn't understand! He did help me choose the colours in the shop and even said he could see why I had been looking forward to buying it!

Well, I must go and have a shower so I'll catch up with the last ten days of the thread a bit later on. I hated leaving everyone behind but it's good to be back on here! I've missed you all!

I hope you are all well.

    KathyXX

I've just read back for a few posts and want to send lots of (((hugs))) to you, Maytaurus.

Hi all, been pretty quiet here lately hasn`t it ? Thought I`d have loads to catch up on but everyone must be busy doing wooly stuff or like me have the littlies at home for half term. Just nipping in while munching a sandwich and they are watching a dvd.

Love the flower pic and pattern, might be adding a few of these to squares to liven them up - if I can get them to work of course.

I don`t know, I turn my back for a couple of days and you`ve got a poor man clothed in a sopping wet shirt !! Behave yourselves and dry it off for him, you can admire his rippling muscles tho`.........

ISOM did you enjoy your pancakes ??? Shame your lodger is moving on already.

Nice to see you back Kathy and glad you enjoyed all the cuddling sessions. Bet you`re both looking forward to your next trip already. You`ll be kept busy getting things in order for the family coming for their visit to you, so won`t have too much time to miss them.

Sounds as though world war three is breaking out so better dash.

Welcome to any newbies and hugs to those in need.....you know who you are.

  • Nice to see you back home again Kathy, sound like you had a wonderful holiday which is what it's all about really.
Well its been a bit of a non-day today, as far as knitting/crocheting or sewing goes, but I have survived the conversational English class so I count that as a bonus. Off to start a wee bit of crochet. I am determined to crack that babette pattern, I failed miserably last night, probably due to me wanting to watch the tv at the same time as trying to pay attention and learn a new skill.
Cuddles to everybody, whether you want them or not - go on have them - all free this week only.

  • Hi all and welcome back Kathy. The time has gone soooo fast since you were counting down sleeps. I just wanted to say that, for me, it felt like a friend was missing. Glad you had a wonderful time and got a big welcome home from Louis.
Re the wet shirt, Colin Firth has always been a real favourite of mine. In case anyone else is interested, yesterday I found out that if I googled his name there are links to quite a few interviews he has done on YouTube.
I baked some scones today and then went to see a disabled friend who is housebound. A brisk walk, a long chat then back home for lunch and a look what is happening on here.
The MSE email contains info on free alternative web browsers and I decided to give the Opera one a whirl as it is supposed to be good for old computers with low memory. So far I have been mega impressed but will let you know more over time.
Yesterday I decided to unravel the edgings on some granny squares I had done after reading posts on how to stop that annoying curling and the two I have re-done are much better so will be using that method from now on. Simple things do make all the difference.
Well, time for a cuppa now. All best wishes to you all. Kath

Hya folks, just thought I would pop in and mention the most wonderful wool shop I found yesterday....well I spotted it on Monday, but resisted until yesterday (less than 24 hours!!)!

It is the Baa Ram Ewe in Leeds....oh my, what a shop!!! I was ages there and there was a steady stream of customers most of the time. It was lovely to see wool in real-life, rather than ordering it on-line...they have an amazing collection of local yorkshire wools, even naming the farms the wool comes from! I would love to live nearby....but then that would be terribly tempting!!! :D

In the end I bought 10 balls of Wensleydale DK to make my DH a jumper for his birthday next month...I may not need quite as many as that. but I'd rather have too much and knit a matching hat and scarf, rather than run out. Also, I don't know when/if I will ever be there again!

I was in Leeds as I took up DS2 for a two-day rugby camp and spent the night in a B&B nearby. Still hope to make this jumper in secret, but as I have to measure DH (he has long arms and body!), he will gather something is up!

Right, off to get the rest of the washing sorted....had to do 3 loads today, and with rain all day, I have the clothes on the airer infront of the wood burner so I won't need to use the tumble-drier so much. It doesn't mean a bit of rotation, but at least the leccie bill is less!! DS2 has more training on Friday, so he will need some of the kit he had up in Leeds....the things we do for our kids!!

Hello everyone - hope everybody is well and a very big welcome home to

Kathy -- you have been sorely missed but so glad you had a wonderful time-- Lots of wonderful memories to keep you going til you see them all again. Glad you had a lovely time in the wool shop----Keiss -- Yours sounds wonderful too !!

Ladykath -- please share how to stop the edges rolling as sometimes mine do too

Roamin -- I know exactly hat you mean about the Babette I have to keep counting !!

Thanks for kind comments re DVD. We woke up to rain again this morning and my heart sank but it cleared and we have managed a lovely trip up the coast, some big kite flying and a long leisurely lunch so all lovely. We are not going to be able to go up the mountains because of the strong winds but the Winter Olympics are going someway to make up for that.

We are still hooking away at the Babette and I have a 8" Lappy for non concentrating minutes on the go !

Have lovely days everyone and lots of love and gentle thoughts to all x
Try and do a good deed every day.

    Afternoon all

May, that tunic is lovely and just what I could do with for summer, thank you.
Pippa, those little flowers are so cute. They’ll be useful to sew onto bags and blankets, thanks.
Chalky, what a lovely video you must be so pleased.
Paula anne, welcome . You’re soon going to love it here as much as the rest of us.
Sunnygirl, that sounds like it’s going to be a warm blanket, 4 rounds a square, sounds like my kind of crochet!
Shez, you must be mad jumping again, you're braver than I could be. I’ll send some money with my next parcel for you.
Mioliere, I can’t believe that the 10 days have gone so quickly, you were much missed. Glad you had a lovely time with all your family.

Oh noooo, not an Aldi sale. I’ve bought loads of wool recently and have been thinking of ordering more from Texere, but I might have to put that off and get down to Aldi tomorrow. I can’t resist those gorgeous colours especially in the aran.
It’s been pretty cold here, so hope you’re all keeping warm and well.
Hugs to poorlies and anyone feeling low.
    love
