Can I ask, does the IS hat campaign run every year ?
I think I have left it too late to post mine and so will just wait and post them next year....will have made a few more by then too. Realistically cannot get to PO until tomorrow (and its the small local one too) and I don't think they'd make it from here in time.
Ok, not even got the needles out yet, as silly me is rearranging some furniture now the codeine and heat pack have kicked in!

ISOM - my Mum in the UK told me about the smaller strikes that have been going on in certain areas, and now it looks as if all the post office workers will be out on strike soon. Hope they can get the matter sorted before it gets to that. Hope your lodger is happy about the cat. I didn't know you could still buy cats in pet shops in the UK. The only pets I ever see in the shops there are goldfish! Here they sell all sorts of things in the pet departments.
Orkney Star - yes, so far as we know, the IS hats campaign is run every year. The closing date is usually around the same time in October, with the hats going on sale in the first week of November. Sadly, the hats raise less this year than in previous years. They used to be worth 50p each to charity, now it's .35p, but, having said that, it's still better than nothing at all! The veg pot warmers - new for the campaign this year - raise .44p each. It's still a great idea - last year Sainsbury's announced that they had raised over £500,000, which is fantastic, and they exceed the total every year.
Well, we've had pouring rain for five minutes this morning, then 26 degrees of hot sun, then an hour and a half of thunder and pouring rain again. Now the rain has stopped, and the clouds are clearing, but it could all change again in the next half an hour!
I've been sat quietly crocheting away on DGS's lapghan for the afternoon, because I had to unplug my Livebox during the storm, so I couldn't come on here.
Anyway, hope you are all having a good afternoon.

Hi Mrs Moneypenny - when I was doing the update this morning, I realised that the running total I have for you for the ST covers/pads and bags don't match up with the totals on your sig. I'd be really grateful if you would let me know the correct numbers, so I can add them to the update. Sorry to be a pain.

Help please experts! Trying to start cardi usng Bergere de France, angel wool (framboise in col!) but am getting confused...wool says 3 or 3.5 needled but pattern says...
"The instructions are for 4ply yarn. Instructions for DK yarn are in brackets.
Back. Using size 12(10) needles, cast on 40(32) sts.
Work 6(4) rows K1 P1 rib.
Change to size 10(8) needles and work in stocking stitch for 48(38) rows.
Cast off."
Which needles should I use?! Want to get started but dont want to start with wrong thing! Is that uk 10 needles, 10mm of what? I is confused!

ISOM - Hi - the yarn is 4ply & you need to start with UK 12 or (2.75mm) and change to UK 10 or (3.25mm). Suggest you do a tension square :eek:to check your gauge against the pattern, I know its boring but with a cardi its best to check first.
luv

ISOM
UK 10 is 3 1/4 mm
UK 12 is 2 3/4mm
Your wool sounds like 4 ply - bearing in mind that you use a smaller needle for rib - so you would start with 2 3/4mm and change up to 3 1/4mm
Ignore the figures in brackets for the yarn you are using at the moment
Just read prfungi - I think that 3 3/4 (3.75 mm) is UK 9.
Best thing is to check what is best for you with a tension square
Have some 'doubles' of crochet hooks now so will bring them to next knitting club meet for you.0 -
