  • I think if you start with the 'lives within her means' you will start to feel better about yourself and the rest may just follow on naturally.
We all have 'blips' but you are attempting to fix everything at once. focus on the thing that bothers you most, but don't let it cost you money to deal with it. For example if its your weight that bothers you, eating healthier is generally also cheaper anyway, no processed, expensive foods. Again, if you are already paying for a gym, are you getting your use out of it. If not a member of a gym, try walking, cycling etc.

Quit smoking. Food will taste better, exercising will become easier as your lungs clear of tar and that'll make going to the gym more fun. It'll free up some cash which will help towards your other goals too.

Hi Badpenny - you're trying to be too perfect all in one go! Bad habits need time to become good ones. You're going to have to start chipping away at them one at a time. I agree with moo2moo that the smoking needs to go first - that's the worst habit and no doubt the hardest one to break - but think of all that extra money!

  • Have decided that I am going to focus on the smoking first, that way I will be saving cash so therefor enabling me to live within my means!! So what if I gain a little bit of weight in the process I will cross that bridge when I come to it. I am also not going to worry about going to the gym at the moment and I am even toying with the idea off cancelling my membership. I just dont think I will ever be one of those gym-type people no matter how much I want to be.

About 10 years ago I lost about a stone and a half through healthy eating and walking. I used to walk for 45mins a day and the weight just dropped off me and i didn't find it a chore as i used to just build it into my day. Best of all it was free exersise. will see how it goes I might find that once i embrace my new regime i want to do some exercise!!!!!!!! we'll see!

  • its time to get back to the money saving!

Have just been over to the up your income board and there is a great thread over there about turning £100 into 10k in a year. Now I have been toying with the idea lately of making my own things to sell but as usual my negative thinking got in the way. Well i'm just gonna damn well do it. I have always wanted to have my own little bussiness and the guys over there have really got me thinking I can do this.

So the new plan is to get back to the moneysaving/making and stop whittering on about smoking, gyms, overeating,as its all irrelavant to what I want to achieve which is to be debt free. So going forward i am going to make the main focus of my diary about just that.

    Am feeling positive again -

    Targets for this week -
1, start up my love/hate affair with e-bay again. I'm going to list 20 things by Sat.

2, anything not suitable for e-bay will go into my car-boot box. Car boot to be actioned by end of feb.

3, set up a little notebook/ledger to track my sales/expenditure.

4, research into some ideas I have for things I want to make to sell.

5, visit fabric wholesalers and purchase a few bits and bobs to get me started.

Think oh may be having his Lmb!! he has become weirdly obsessed about not leaving the tv/boxs plugged in at night and has just announced he has just bought his last pack of ciggs!!!

Off to do some research now.

    night night.X

You knew what to do all along! It's all about small changes, one step at a time, or you'll never stick to it. It's great that you've got your positive vibes back - hope they're back for good! Good luck!

  • Thanks sun addict.

Moneysaving activity for today as follows,

Breakfast at home so not starving by lunch and end up buying 'EXTRAS"

packed lunchs for me and oh

    Tea from store cupboard

    heating off by 930pm

oh has managed to make the 10ciggs that he bought last night last him all day and he still has one left. he says he will smoke that last one tonight and then thats it!!:j so i will have to be supportive and stop also,
so as of tommorow we are gonna go for it! something has definatly clicked on in his brain as he used the word frugal in a sentance earlier:T

    tommorows list looks like this

    breakfast at home
packed lunches for both of us
    flask of coffee for work
ring mum and ask if i can "borrow" her sewing machine in anticipation for my new money making ideas

  • If giving up smoking is the kick you need then go for it. I've never smoked so have no idea how it feels to give up, but suspect you will need support. If OH is giving up too, that is a big plus.

    All your goals are linked.
Giving up smoking will save money and help live within your means. You will also be healthier. Exercise doesn't need to cost. If you get food cravings when giving up smoking, have fresh fruit snacks etc. so you don't feel guilty about pigging out on chocolate.

Allow yourself some treats!! Otherwise the whole thing becomes a chore. Then you end up beating yourself up again, get fed up, eat, spend etc.

  • TA DAHHH!

we did it! we have both gone the whole day without smoking:j And we are both ok, I'm so proud of oh (and myself ofcourse) oh is a much heavier smoker than me, about 20 a day where I avarage around 10 a day. But we did it! Oh was calculating how much he will save a month and it is around a jaw dropping £180:eek: and thats just him! I know its only early days but its the first time oh has been serious about giving it up he never quite gets round to it so i'm dead pleased.

a nsd for me today:j and oh only spent about 80p on a paper and choc bar so a good day.

am just about to go off and search for some 0% deals on some credit cards as all my promo deals have or are about to come to an end so fingers crossed i'll be accepted.

    xx
