Hi all - taking a break from the ironing.

Jackie0 - a lovely story; thanks for sharing it.

NPM - I'm glad the tax office have accepted the increased payments. It's better than no payments at all, isn't it? I think you're right to make him acknowledge the seriousness of the situation - he'll thank you for it in the long run.

(((Hugs))) to all those who are feeling poorly or anxious today.

    Essex-girl - ouch to the vet's bill!

Thanks for all the comments about our kitten, Louis. He wasn't so cute this morning when I found him 'playing' with a little bird. Luckily, it was rescued, as was the little snake we found him with the other day. As I've just said on another thread - it reminds me of a saying 'If cats looked like frogs, we'd realise what evil b******s they really were'!

Anyway, the kitten chose us rather than the other way around. When we first moved here in March a little black cat befriended us. She was obviously a stray. We'd feed her but she never ventured in to the house. About three months ago she suddenly turned up with a little tabby kitten, that we guessed was about twelve/thirteen weeks old. He was scared stiff of us and would dart into the goat shed (that we'd left open for them!) every time we made eye contact. He has gradually become used to us and is a lot bolder than the mother. He has now moved in lock, stock and barrel, and is giving us a lot of laughs and cuddles. The sad part of the story is that we realised the mother was pregnant so we were making plans for her - DH had made up a little box in case she wanted somewhere safe to have the babies - but she suddenly started being unkind to the kitten. Apparently, they become very antisocial when they are pregnant, but I was surprised it was directed to her own kitten. Anyway, we had decided to have her 'done' after the kittens were born but a neighbour's dog escaped three weeks ago, got into our garden, and cornered her. She managed to escape but we haven't seen her since, despite hunting high and low. The tabby escaped by running back in to the house. The dog is huge and lively; he wouldn't have hurt them, I'm sure, but he must have been a terrifying sight. We are hoping that the mother has had her babies and just turns up with them at some point. The male cat that keeps getting her pregnant will be neutered soon, hopefully. I think he belongs to neighbours who are away a lot. He doesn't look like a stray, and he certainly knows what a lap is for, but I don't think it's responsible of the owner to leave it wandering around making babies. It's not fair on the females or the resulting kittens. France has long had a problem with stray cats but they are working very hard at sorting it out. Friends of ours here run a charity specifically for neutering and spaying strays, so we will probably take him there. He doesn't wear a collar, so can be treated as a stray.

Anyway, when Louis is not rampaging around the garden, he is really cute - tabby mixed with mountain lion, I think!

Well, I started this post over an hour ago then got interrupted. Better get back to the ironing!

    Oh Bargainbird,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Best wishes to you and your family. It sounded unexpected and must be a huge shock for you all.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

    Afternoon all

Been MIA for over a week down at the caravan in Paignton, weather was lovely and it was sooo relaxing, just what was needed after all that had been going on before we went, both good and bad (awful)

Not much OS going on but did take a few frozen meals down that I cooked the week before we went, saved a lot of time and £££'s too

Managed to finish most of the washing, only the duvet and sheets to get done now, so hoping for a nice blowy day tomorrow ;)

My neighbours DS picked up the post and watered the baskets and pots out the front for me, spoke to neighbour yesterday and her DS is ill in bed with flu, dont know if its Swine flu yet though....

Off to sort the garden out now, so many leaves all over the place, just need to get them up and do a bit of chopping off here and there.

Have'nt had time to catch up yet, will do later.

Hope all is well with everyone,
    Anne
