Did the rent get paid Ok in the end? Might be worth asking the tenants to set up a regular arrangement or standing order to pay it on the due day each month just for peace of mind.

Glad the weekend went well - and well done also on the NSD target!

I bet after all the stressing about it it was an utter relief to give your notice in, wasn't it!

Yep, the rent went in on Friday, a couple of days late but I think that is probably more to do with the bank than the tenants. They have set up a standing order now so hopefully shouldn't have the same problem next month...

i've just spent what feels like a fortune finishing chrissy pressies online, but 2 out of 3 shops was via quidco. I will not spend more money, i have everyone's pressies now!

Man I am jealous - I want someone to come and do my Christmas shopping for me! I have a few ideas but no presents yet...or cards...or shopping...or space in the freezer!

Okay, so a bit of an update is needed methinks...where were we?

Well, I was off work last Thursday and Friday because I was exhausted, literally wrecked. I had the heaviest period I have ever had and that, coupled with a bit of a cold just completely did me in. Thankfully after a couple of days on the settee and plenty of sleep and fresh fruit I am feeling a bit better. However, I do not want to be in that situation again next month, particularly because I will have started my new job then, so I’ve made an appointment with my doctor to have a chat about it. I’m not sure if it is something to do with the coil so I want to get it checked out.

In the meantime, I’ve been thinking that I have come a bit off track with the whole eating and diet/exercise thing and I think it might all be linked in. So I am going to make a bit of an effort to eat better quality food – porridge for breakfast, at home and made properly in a pan. Not toast in the car. I’ve bought some quinoa and cottage cheese to have a salad at lunchtimes as well because it is one of the few food that doesn’t seem to give me a huge energy crash in the afternoon.

I re-realised last week just how precious time and energy and health is. I desperately wanted to do things but just didn’t feel like I could manage it. I really don’t want to sound melodramatic but I have never felt like that before and it was awful. So things that I think will help are – taking time to eat better, getting a bit of gentle exercise (even if it is just a walk), making an effort to catch up with friends and enjoy life and trying not to let the last 3 weeks of work get to me.

Last night we went out for dinner with some people who I used to work with which was lovely. They paid as well so I only had to put in a tip and buy a couple of drinks which was great. Tonight I am off to my riding lesson as well for the first time in a fortnight, which I am looking forward too. Then tomorrow night I am off round to my parents’ to help my Grandma write her Christmas cards (still need to do my own!) and Thursday it is my team party at work (paid for in advance). Then on Friday I am off to Dublin for a couple of days which I am really excited about! Got a dirt cheap ryanair flight (£38 return) and a bed in a youth hostel (£30 for two nights) which I didn’t think was too bad at all, especially seeing as I booked it last minute.

Money-wise things haven’t been going too badly. I’ve realised that if I can find an extra £436 I could make my original target of paying off my virgin card by the end of January. I am due an £80 refund from council tax so that is a start and I am just thinking of things I could ebay and other ways I can make a bit extra. I’m not committing to the challenge yet but I might see how feasible it actually is...

  • Well Katy. I have just read all of your diary. My goodness I can't believe someone so young has such a good head on their shoulders. Look at you losing 6 stone how fantastic. And all the thought and work you have put into debt busting. you will do it. I am sure that what ever you set out to do you will succeed in. But please stop being so hard on yourself at times. You are a remarkable person and you are doing all this at such a young age when some people your age just dont have a clue. Not on here though. I cannot get over how many young people there are tackling debt etc. Its good they got there LBM at such a young age. I wish you all the best and will keep reading your diary. Thats if you dont mind an old'n taking part.lol

Not at all, the more the merrier! And you aren't old!

Thanks for the encouragement, sometimes it just feels like I am struggling really hard against it all and not succeeding all that well. I suppose all you can do is take one step at a time and just keep going...that's what I am aiming for anyway.

Not really been updating this diary for a little while. Have mainly been struggling through my last week at work which is horrible, mainly due to an impossible boss, and sorting out all my Christmas presents. I've not really managed to be all that DFW this month, I've overspent a bit but I'm trying not to beat myself up about it all because I have at least managed not to use my credit card, for the first time in about 10 years. That's a mini triumph at least!

I'm starting to think about what I want my 2010 goals to be, both financially and life-wise. I will post back when I've had a bit more time to think about them...

Oh, I'm going to delete my December NSD target from my signature too...there is no WAY that is going to happen! :o

Keep your chin up hon, bet you're glad to be away from nasty boss. Yup, don't beat yourself up about not being too DFW, so long as you don't continue during the sales.....lol, that's my downfall usually!
  • If any time of the year is going to come back and bite you on the rear it will be christmas - and not using the CC is a good result all on its own so don't be too hard on yourself!
