Iam moving into a flat on thursday that has absoulutly nothing in it apart from a cooker...iam on income support as lone parent as iam 32 weeks pregnant on my own. I have just phoned up to enquire about a crisis loan and told i will not get one im not entilted as i have not been on benifits for more than 26 eeks or something!!!
So what exactly am i suppose to do? I will have a new born baby in oprox 8 weeks and i have no furniture or nothing not even a kettle and there telling me thats not a crisis....
So does that mean if i had been on benifits for 26 weeks i would be able to claim this..thats so unfair!!! Ihave nothing no money no savings and bad credit rating so how am i suppose to get these essentials to live?
Please somebody help.....

Most towns have housing aid charitys that will give you furniture and stuff to help you get going you didnt say which town you lived in - im sure you will have something similar nearby.Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives.:j0

So why did u move out? I know it might of been crowded but at least you will of had all the essentials that you needed.
How did you pay for the deposit of this flat?
Surly some of your family can buy u or loan you some things that you need to help get yourself started up.
You wont be eligable for tax credits till your baby is born.
Have u applied for the HIP and sure start grant?0 -

Hi corrin87
Don't panic!
First off, on the money front, did you know that you are entitled to the Health in Pregnancy Grant – a one-off payment of £190, which can be claimed from your 25th week of pregancy? More info on how to claim on the link below...

To help out with fresh fruit and vegetables and/or baby formula, you should also be entitled to the Healthy Start vouchers. These are worth £3.10 each and you get one per week, which would reduce your weekly food bill and free up money towards household essentials.

Re. large appliances, have you heard of Freecycle (see link below)? Basically stuff is recycled for free through the site – you can place adverts offering stuff or adverts requesting stuff. You may have to organise collection yourself but you should be able to find things like fridges, washing machines, furniture etc on it.

For smaller household appliances (kettles, toasters, irons, microwaves etc) do you know any couples who have recently moved in together? If so, they may have two of some of these things and be willing to lend/give you the spare. I donated my toaster and kettle to a friend when I moved house...
Obviously I don't know your circumstances (and feel free to tell me to mind my own business) but is there any chance that the father of your baby-to-be could help out?
BrionaIf I don't respond to your posts, it's probably because you're on my 'Ignore' list.0 -
Just had another thought: you may be entitled to the Sure Start Maternity Grant – a one-off payment of £500, which can be claimed once you are within 11 weeks of giving birth up to the time your baby is 3 months old.
